Problem getting into reverse

I'm having trouble shifting into reverse on my 88 alltrac. I had a mechanic I know look at it. At first he thought it was a transmission problem but he messed with the linkage for the shifter thats behind the engine and was able to get into reverse. He thinks it might be bushings or something that wont allow the shifter to go far enough right to get into reverse. Anyone know anything about it or where i might be able to get parts?

Speed Source cells brass shift cable bushings if you want to give those a shot.

I'd also check the shifter cables, they may be stretched out or damaged.
