I found nothing for phpBB (our forum software). I can probably custom code something with Google maps, but I am still busy with the main page redesign.
I will look into this once I have more time. What I can do now is publish some map screen-shots taken from the traffic monitoring software. All data was collected in the last 30 days.

Are those hits based on every time someone loads a thread, or just accesses AT.net and then stays online?

The stats are based on unique visitors count. If you access the website by accessing multiple threads, you are still counted as 1 visitor.
