Muffler preference and experience.

Been pondering on what muffler to buy and have always had a soft spot for the Apexi N1.

Wondering what experience you guys have had with name brands being the quality, sound, price and purpose of the muffler.

I've always loved the sound of the apexi n1 but wanna see what else I can get for possibly a better price. Open to full discussion.

I've had stock, SSAC, and HKS Hi-Power.

Of the three, hi-power ftw.

I've had both the motoria and the HKS. The HKS does not hit at all and it sounds so awesome. Its definetly worth every penny. The Motoria with their midpipe rattles like a son of a bitch at least when it was on my car. I hated it. Buy the HKS you will not regret it.

If you can afford it, get the HKS.

The SSAC is a full system.

SSAC does require you drop the front crossmember with a couple washers. The resonator pipe/piece also can rattle if you don't know how to properly align it.

It's a good system overall. I preferred it over the Blitz and Apexi.

HKS and Aussie are nicer, but I wouldn't get an Aussie ever at this point (overpriced).

I'm running a no-name downpipe, custom midpipe and a BWR 3" muffler and I love it. It's a bit loud though, so I might add a resonator at some point. There's no way I could justify the cost of the HKS axleback.

I'm looking at building my own system have ordered an ATS 3inch down pipe. Found some good high flow cats just need to decide on muffler/resonator combo.
I want high flow no drone and reasonably quiet. Has to be well under. 90db so I can track it and not be hassled by cops.
Looking at a varex muffler but have heard when their closed it causes damage due to excessive back pressure. Doesn't sound right to me but it's what he said .....

Magnaflow SS mufflers are great, SS weld bead, SS body, good bit of dB dampening without the flow restriction.
Just put one on a turbo AE86 amazing difference from that annoying ass megan exhaust

Never even heard of Varex. I'll need to get into the group and look into them.

Having a dp will definitely cause your car to get louder! With probably any muffler. Add some resonators maybe a hiflo cat and I'm sure you'll be good

Is there a big difference when we talk about 2.5" to 3" for muffler choice.?

This is in fact a well slutted lie...

I use the twin tip 3inch inlet/outlet varex, with the valve open it is literally a straight through 3inch muffler with zero restrictions.
You can close the valve fully and 95% of exhaust gasses will pass through the body of the muffler, making it sound as quiet as stock or slightly quieter. but there is still minor flow around the butterfly so back pressure dosnt build.
The valve can be set to any position between fully open and closed to give you a custom note/volume.

When i initially had my varex installed i also got 3inch from the dump pipe to the varex.....the difference from stock exhaust to that was unbelievable.... I got much faster spool rates over the stock exhaust which can only mean its less restrictive than the stock exhaust even with the valve closed....soo if its less restrictive than stock exhaust how would any damage be done ??
Only time i can see problems arise is if you have the stock 2.5inch exhaust with the stock dump pipe cat and the stock intermediate muffler....then with the valve closed you would create significant pressure.... but nobody is that stupid right :lol:

For me personally with the butterfly fully closed so the muffler is as quiet is it can be, the noise is equal to that of the stock exhaust, it flows very well in closed mode, its a quality made piece of kit and it looks good because its shiny but not a stupid cannon like every other c**t

I have the aussie 3" dp and mid pipe with
the HKS hi power rear. no resonator or cat
It sounds great, deep with
no drone and loud enough to be heard
but not bugged by the cops.
I have also had the car at Limerock
and passed the ridiculously low 88 db sound limit
the hks is worth every penny in quality fitment and sound

One that can be hidden under the car and makes it as quite as possible. Other than that im not picky
