Hey guys I need help. With the 25 yr rule coming up January 2013 I can own a 1988 rhd celica gt-four. I'm in the market to ship one over from Europe or Japan but I have not yet been able to find a place to find one so that I can ship it. If some one can point me to a place to find a white gt-four st165 any help would be greatly appreciated

Excerpt from http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/import/faq site/pages/page2.html#Anchor-28852

8. Importing a vehicle that is at least 25 years old.
A motor vehicle that is at least 25 years old can be lawfully imported into the U.S. without regard to whether it complies with all applicable FMVSS. Such a vehicle would be entered under Box 1 on the HS-7 Declaration form to be given to Customs at the time of importation. If you wish to see that form, you may download a copy from our website at http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import. You should note that the 25 year period runs from the date of the vehicle's manufacture. If the date of manufacture is not identified on a label permanently affixed to the vehicle by its original manufacturer, to establish the age of the vehicle, you should have documentation available such as an invoice showing the date the vehicle was first sold or a registration document showing that the vehicle was registered at least 25 years ago. Absent such information, a statement from a recognized vehicle historical society identifying the age of the vehicle could be used.

In addition to NHTSA/DOT regulations the EPA and Customs/Border Patrol requirements must also be met. Below is an excerpt from https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/de...ments-for-importing-a-vehicle-/-vehicle-parts

Vehicles over 25 years old are exempt from EPA and DOT requirements, although you will still need to obtain and prepare EPA and DOT paperwork to provide to a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officer in order to clear your vehicle through CBP.
Without a copy of the CBP entry form, you will not be able to register the vehicle in the U.S.
Prior to filing your entry with CBP:
-Ensure you have valid proof of ownership, which is an original certificate of title, or a certified copy of the original. Vehicle Parts will require a receipt for purchase.
-Manufacturer's letter/certificate, stating that the vehicle conforms to EPA and DOT standards. Vehicle parts must also be conformed to U.S. Standards depending on the part being imported. (For example: Engine must meet EPA and a Fender must meet DOT standards)
-Completed EPA form 3520-1 and DOT form HS-7. Vehicle parts will depend on the part being imported to the U.S.

I personally would not attempt to perform this kind of import without going through a registered importer, or at least hire a customs broker to file paperwork and secure your customs bond for you.

there are a lot of companies out there that import other kinds of cars. it doesn't matter what car it is as long as they know what they're doing. start googling for car importers. i bet if you go to some of the european makers' clubs/forums, they could point you in a better direction.
