FC Zach's AllTrac

This my second Celica but my first AllTrac. I purchased the car off FleaBay (will never do that again without driving/flying to see it first) the end of January, paid to have it shipped and received it early December. I was anxiously waiting for the shipping date to come and couldn't wait to see it. The car is nice to look at (minus the dent in the fender), overall the outside looks pretty decent. As soon as I attempted to start it to roll it off the trailer it was having a tough time starting so I got the jumper cables out, popped the hood (no battery there), then popped the hatch and find a big lead/acid battery just sitting there (unmounted) and with small gauge (no larger than 8 ) cables connected to the battery :nono:

This battery issue was the first problem on my list of PO F**K UPS. Tracing the cables and yes I said cables (they didn't even ground to the chassis close to the battery) through the engine bay I find this hidden treasure, notice the gauge of the cable coming from the hatch. . .

From the time I unloaded the car in December till just last week, without ever driving it, I have been correcting little issues.

This is my version, better quality?

I never took a picture of the big, heavy, unmounted battery with dinky wires but I wish I did. Here's my correction, notice the larger cable/ small battery. This is just an example of how if something is done correctly it will work and do so efficiently. I haven't once had a slow cranking start since I've been driving the car.

Pic of the Odyssey PC680 with some terminals I found at Batteries Plus, better deal than online.

Next up was repairing the heater core. The previous owner just bypassed it. I want a heater in my daily driver so I'm gonna fix it! I couldn't find a heater core anywhere, not even Toyota and I didn't wanna go with one from a parts store so I built up the courage and attempted to repair the core myself.

When I got the dash and core out the first thing I did was pressurize it and looked for the source of the leaks which happened to be coming from just the inlet/outlet lines. Sounds simple enough. . . It was a PITA!! !

First I tried just repairing the bad sections of each line just to repressurize it after repairing and find other leaks so I then decided to just go ahead and redo both lines completely. Luckily the key pieces I needed to reuse (the ends that slide into the core) were leak free. Here is the end result, BTW the barbed ends are water hose repair ends that I found at Home Depot 8)

Here is the end result, worked out well! Well so far it has, I hope to not have to pull the dash out again!! :shoots:

Haha That battery relocation job was "special". Poor kid should have looked on youtube and one of the 10million how tos if he didnt know how to do it. Way back on a 3000GT I used to have it came with a house breaker as the fuse for a subwoofer system which was no longer there.

My First AllTrac

Nice job so far fixing that All-Trac up!! Sadly enough, most people end up in the same position as you're in with purchasing nearly any performance-oriented, non-new car.

My Stealth has needed SO much work since I've acquired it back in late '08.

Keep up the great work!!

Last month I had the airbag light come on and really didn't want to take it to the dealer so I did some searching and found a link on how to make a tool to read/delete codes. . Here's the neat little tool I made, worked great! Got the pieces to make it from Radio Shack and it only cost me a few bucks. :D

Thanks! Yeah I saw his idea which is great but I didn't have a pill bottle laying around so I figured I'd use a job box thingy from radio shack.
