Is loose feel while shifting normal?

I have a 1990 Alltrac, approx 75,000 miles. It has really long throws and feels loose when shifting. Especially when compared to my MR2 Spyder.

Basically just wondering if these cars are normally like that?

my GTS feels extremely loose but it shifts gears just fine. Have a look at the "sugar cube" near the tranny end of the shift cables, apparently that can wear down quite a bit and rotating it tightens things up again.

It shifts fine. It's just has the most play of any car I've driven. Thanks for the replies.
