LIttleMissAllTrac's ST185 (1992)

So i didnt get the engine and tranny out yet. I need to either borrow or buy a hoist atm but the engine is definitely ready to come out. Did a little more work today and finally with the assistance of a 2 ft prybar i got the exhaust manifold, turbo, downpipe full assembly out of the car. Also came by another decent rot spot on the front end by the drivers side wheel well (i wire wheeled this down and blasted it with some rust paint to try and save it till i can get there to replace the metal), passenger has some in the same spot but not as bad as the driver side. Here are some pics to update you all...

Sorry for the lack of updates guys, ive hit a few snags so far. There was a member on here that was suppose to get me original sheet metal from a all trac he found in a junk but hes not replying to my messages anymore so im pretty sure hes given up (ive given up on him actually supplying them at this point). The other snag is a engine lift, I would like to purchase one and am just waiting for the right deal at this point. If anyone local has a hoist they would let me borrow for a few weeks it would allow me to get the car stripped completely. Biggest let down is that im back at fabricating the panels as NO ONE has panels for these cars anywhere (unless i can find a junk 90-93 celica of any model, putting out APB if anyone knows someone local to NH that has a junker sitting around. Only need the metal so i dont care if the engine or the tranny are in a million pieces or missing completely.) Car at this point sits pretty much 95% stripped, just need to take out the front axles and rip out the engine/ tranny. I plan on doing alot more this spring but my garage has no heat so working on it in the winter has deemed itself a challenge cold wise (been a very cold winter). Ill try to keep updates going, any help anyone might have is always appreciated.

Check your local car parts store; they usually rent these out for a fee (returned when dropped off at the store). Otherwise you could always buy one. I got mine from Northern but I know Carquest and Napa sell them. Shouldn't go for more than $150 and if you've dropped everything at least twice I'd advise just buying one because you. Won't have to keep renting or borrowing it. Just be careful because everyone will want to borrow it.
Also it wouldn't hurt to grab a winter heater. I grabbed one from Norther Tool as well for $120. It runs on kerosene. If you do buy kerosene try to get the less smelling version. A little more $$$ but at least it doesn't keep you in the clouds.
Also great work so far. I miss working on mine.

yea i have considered a heater, but ive already decided to put that money to a permanent heating solution for the garage (just wont be getting it this year). Im adding a zone on the furnace for the garage, just need to seal up the garage a bit more. Ive also considered renting (for 1 day a local place is charging $100, NO THANKS!) Ill wait and buy one for 130-150 or so, i figure sense i wont be working on it really till spring time ill wait till then to actually buy one and see if I can borrow one for free until then if it happens to come up.

If you wrench at all you can never have enough tools. Get as much as you can. But having an engine hoist is great, until It's borrowed a hundred times its one of those tools you just can't think of living without.

hehe im way ahead of you man, its about the ONLY tool i dont have other than maybe a sheet metal break and a few sheet metal tools i need to get (havent done much body work quite yet). I would say i have over $5,000 in mechanics tools not including my tool box :). Ive already built a couple cars from the ground up (this is not Littlemissalltrac, this is her boyfriend btw). Ive just always had access to a hoist so never needed to buy one. Just bought the new house and a trip to Jamaica so the hoist needs to go on hold for a bit (i dont like to buy the first cheap thing i see come along).

Yes haha the legacy does need a both (it got one shortly after) we have been getting pelted with snow storm after snow storm. I keep it as clean as possible, its 1 of 3000 made limited GT Spec.B model (STI in a legacy body)

Its my daily driver, some car porn for you all...

Thanks! I was planning on bringing the bugeye to about 550, 408 was the base tune haha. I Sold it before i could really do too much with it, life came first at that point. Im hoping to give a mild boost to the all trac but not too crazy, id like to keep it stock location turbo and all. Give it more of a stock look with some oomph behind it. Just bought a engine lift today, went on sale as i had hoped and day after i got my tax return. Be here within the week then I just have to see if i can get a couple friends to come up and help me wiggle it loose. Could prob do it alone but when moving something this heavy i like to have a backup (people who can move it by hand if need be in emergency).

Engine stand is all assembled, engine hoist is all assembled. We had a attempt to pull the motor day and we got a lot done and can pretty much pull the motor but as we got to that point it hit 11PM so we called it. Just need to pull the rest of the wire harness, pull the charcoal canister and pull fuel ish then shes coming out in one whole swoop tranny and all. We got out the full front setup on both sides in one piece (axle, knuckle, coils, attached misc items). Strut tower areas themselves now that i can see them easier are pretty good condition rust wise, nothing crazy in there to worry about just need to blast that all down seal and rubber coat. Also cleaned the garage before the other gents arrived, we were planning on needing the room but now at least its so much easier to work, I have a huge whiteboard in getting that will be going on the wall as a check list board.

Enough talk, MOAR PICTURES!

Still going to be a long road to recovery but the more I get into it the better its looking as far as rust damage. Really the only major parts ive identified that need some serious help are the drivers floor pan (which is pretty much not there anymore) and the rear/rear drivers subframe mount (which is also pretty much not there). Ive started a thread to get some panels made but without the ones I have out of the car to send them or some other ones I cant move forward on that. I have thought about making a template to send them but if its just cardboard im scared via shipping it wont come out on there end right and will be a pain to fit. Anyone have any suggestions on getting him a mold or something I can use to make a mold that I can ship and will keep its shape so when they get it the mold is spot on to the original part?
