If that's a brand new part I would exchange it for a new one.
I think as long as there isn't any burrs that will run the walls in your block, an the piston rings aren't damaged I think you are ok. Not 100% sure tho.
Don't know about cylinder wall or trash. New pistons installed before dyno pull. New build engine. The guys at the chop doing the pull thought it was running lean. But there were oil in the water or the other way round.
if the piston was in the motor and it was already running, I would say just run it. But its out, you have the opportunity to change it easily, I would do so.
Just my $0.02USD, but if it were mine I would just make sure the rings still move freely in their grooves and, assuming they do, I would put it back together and run it. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it either but maybe that's just me.
Local shop says damage is a result of to much heat because of lean mixture. They have actually started to melt. So I think I will leave rvem and go for new ones.
