St204 shifter into st185

Is this just a basic swap over? Just switch out the shifter itself?
I saw the info on the main alltrac. Net front page, but doesn't mention what you need to swap? Anyone have any ideas

You have to push the shift rod out of the housing and then put it in your old housing. I think the 7th gen 5speed works the same way. I used a short shift rod for a ae92. I just had to go get a stack of thick washers for spacer. Make sure you grease it when you put it back in.

If you do that, you only get a shorter front-back motion.
Side to side remains the same length as your not changing out the side arm.

I did this mounting a 205 shifter in my 185.

It feels *awesome*.
Massive improvement over the sloppy long 185 shifter.

Not very, maybe 15mm.
I raised it that extra bit for shifter knob position rather than having to do it to make it fit.
