Well first rule of thumb is that it has to be 92 or older in accordance with the 25yr rule.
Then depending on where you are located in the US, there should be some importers that can help you with selection & paperwork. I know a few on the east coast.

I know a guy in a guy in NC and a shop in VA. The VA shop is probably your best bet since they have impoted many.

i heard about japanese classics the only problem is that they bring cars for them to sell rather than order for other people so is hard to contact them, i tired before so I'm searching more sources, also they prices are kinda high compared to what can be done with a little knowledge. also im not sure if take someone inside the country or someone outside the country

Your best bet will be to talk to an importer that's based in Japan and already importing vehicles to Canada if you can't find a decent one importing directly to the US. The other alternative would be to buy a car that's already in Canada since our law is 15 years.

2016-25=1991. In Japan they don't muck around with "model years" like in North America, so it's simply called the year it was built in.

Contact Pacific Coast JDM and B Pro, they're two of the best ones currently exporting to Canada. I'm not sure about B Pro but I know Pacific Coast has guys living in Japan so it shouldn't be much different for them to send a car to the US instead of Canada.

I doubt it will be any cheaper or any less paper work going through canadian sources. Just might get a better selection of cars instead of having to settle. However, their laws and requirements vary and its way too easy to get jammed in a muck that you didn't expect. Find a trustworthy person that lives close to the importer in canada that can do some of the leg work if not at least follow up when stuff starts taking too long or they start asking for money outside of the initial contractual agreement. I've seen people get burned dealing with some of these places which id rather not mention.

Sorry but I don't understand what you're asking for. I personally know several people who have imported vehicles through PCJDM, if you want more detailed reviews they should be very easy to find online.

If you're willing & able to take care of all the required paperwork, you can just go to a website like Goo-Net Exchange or TradeCarView and look at available cars in Japan and import a conforming vehicle on your own.

I figured I would rather bump an old thread rather than start a new one on the same subject. Has anyone directly imported a GT-Four or other vehicle using Goo-Net Exchange? Is it feasible or am I better off just waiting and finding something in the US?

I've imported around 15 cars in the last 3 years, mostly Kei trucks. I do business paperwork for a living, so to me it wasn't that big of a deal to follow the rules as laid out by the paperwork. A bit nerve wracking sending money the first time, and definitely some confusion on the paperwork and some moments of "oh shit!" scrambling when I filed something wrong or late. I have no idea what shipping cost are currently, cause they have been skyrocketing, but as of February this year the import cost of a gt4 done privately was around $3500 on top of purchase price - shipping, import fees, boat fees, insurance etc.

I have not bought from goo-net however. Does goo-net do anything to their cars? Like fix or prepare them? If not you might have just as good of luck buying from auctions via a middleman - there's several options at fees of $1000+ over auction price. For me, out of fifteen cars 10 have been good enough, 3 have been excellent, and 2 problematic. There's definitely people in Japan tidying up "barn finds" and putting them out there with minimal effort for foreign buyers, but I just have always assumed buying them at auction was a savings vs buying the same car from an after auction broker.

If you're not good with research and paperwork it might be be easier to go the already imported route. It's the experience you pay for, not just with the import but with local titling and registration as well. BUT you can save a thousand or two if you can figure it out yourself.

earthmanjupiter, thanks for your quick response. From what I can tell, I think goo-net is just an exporting service that networks dealers together. I made an inquiry about a Gt-Four I saw on thier website, and I asked for more info, but all I received was a pricing quote. I do have a hard time stomaching buying a vehicle online without a full inspection, let alone any more information than around 20 photos.

I can definitely say importing a car is nerve recking lol. I imported a car myself a couple years ago, that i bought from the auctions and not really knowing the condition of the car and paying a bunch of money without even seeing the car isn't easy. But in the end it was worth it. good luck on the adventure lol
