Hunting a Transmission Leak

Postby lnumbp » Thu Sep 08, 2016 12:58 am

I suspect that I have a transmission fluid leak. It is wetting the passenger side around the axle, and fluid has made its way all of the way back to the rear of the transfer case.

See pictures here:

I'm not familiar yet with these engines/transmissions. Is this clearly a passenger axle seal leak, or is there something else it could be?

Thanks in advance,
Forrest

It could be one/both of the cam seals, the only definite way to see this is to pull the timing covers off as the seals are hidden well. I had cam seal leaks and even after replacing both seals, I found I still have another very small leak from somewhere in this area. I have also not been able to track it down.
