CT27 turbo rebuild, turbo rebuild services or rebuilt turbo?

I have a CT27 in my ST185 and it's slinging oil. I assume it's going to need a rebuild. I can buy the kit to rebuild it but am unsure if I should attempt it myself, or, if not, where I could take it to get it rebuilt? Does anyone still build CT27 turbos?

I would'nt recommend rebuilding the turbo yourself, deffo needs a specialist with the proper equipment to do a long lasting job.

Ok thanks all, I got in touch with ATS and they'll do the rebuild for $425 assuming it doesn't need a turbine or housing (it shouldn't) also asking them to tag on the ceramic coating for a little extra.

I just sent them an email to see if they'd modify my turbo, I like the idea of having more power and keeping things stock bolt-on. How do you like the CT27? Will I need a stand-alone ECU or will the stock support the added power?

I've always seen they are very similar to a ct20b power wise

stock ecu is enough, but needs EBC and a fuel cutoff bypass to use the extra boost. When I bought the car, it was lacking these mods, so it would boost up to 12-15PSI and then hit fuel cutoff. It also had other issues though, vacuum leaks and a jury-rigged recirculator... I'm cutting that out and replacing it with a proper BOV and adding in the EBC and cutoff bypass before I button her back up.

Good to know, thanks! Oddly, I have gone to and over 12psi with my 26 and haven't hit fuel cut and to my knowledge I don't have a bypass for this. . I do have a blowoff valve and an adjustable billet wastegate actuator (12lb spring).

Fuel cutoff is 14.7psi on 165's and 185's, excluding the RC/CS/GrpA. A BOV just makes a pretty sound but a boost controller or adjustable wastegate will help things. Personally I like my EBC because it can ut the boost back to the stock wastegate pressure if it detects a problem.

I'm installing one to help reduce stress on the engine and manifold. Too much boost when letting off on the gas is bad. And I'm having issues with a lean condition as it is.

I've got the Innovate SCG-1. It's a boost gauge, boost controller and wideband all in one. The upside of that is that it can cut boost if it detects a spike in boost pressure or that you're running too lean. It's takes a bit more work to set up than a "point and shoot" boost controller but I like the added protection.

Pressures slightly above the stock fuel cut shouldn't be a risk to the manifold or anything else. If you're running lean I'd fix the actual problem instead of trying to use a BOV as some kind of bandaid.

Oh of course I'm fixing the problem... but I also over-engineer everything so it can never fail again

Man that is nice! I haven't seen this one, I sure am happy I have now, thanks! I've always liked the Innovate A/F products, it's a big plus that they've crammed all that in one gauge. Super convenient!
