All Trac Radiator Options

If you have needed a radiator for your All Trac, you probably have found it's a nightmare to try and get the right radiator.  Some may claim to have the radiator you want, only to find it's for a non turbo when you get there.  First let's go over the specifics:

ST165:

Toyota Part Number: (cost ~$350)

Radiator Type: Top to Bottom Flow, 2 core

Core Measurements:

Notes:  Contains bolts to mount electric fan on top.  Contains water temperature switch for electric fans at the bottom.  Metal top and bottom tanks.  Aftermarket replacements will not have the turbo water pipe welded in.  In a pinch, non turbo radiator can be used, but a turbo pipe must be welded.

ST185:

Toyota Part Number: (cost ~$350)

Radiator Type: Top to Bottom Flow, 2 core

Core Measurements: 23 x 13 "

Notes:  Contains bolts to mount electric fan on top.  Contains water temperature switch for electric fans at the bottom.  Plastic Top and Bottom Tanks.  ST184 radiator can be substituted in a pinch, which will have auto tranny tubes on the bottom and will be missing the mount for the upper heat shield.

Custom Radiator Repair:

If only the fin part of the radiator is damaged, you can have it repaired.  What they will do is take your top and bottom caps, and mate them with a new core.  The core size is pretty standard, so getting one is not hard.  Get an aluminum core over brass, if possible.  Expect to pay about $150 for this repair.  If you can get a 3 core instead, go for that for extra cooling and capacity.  This will run about $300, but will be far better than the OE style.

Used Radiator:

Try www.car-part.com.  You can find used ones from $75.  It's not suggested to get a used one.  If you do, assume it will need to be rebuilt.  For those with a bad top tank, this may be your only option.  Be careful, if you get a rotten apple, it will cost you more than the Toyota new replacement.

Also note, ST165 and ST185 radiator are very different.  Do not attempt to swap these radiators.

Custom Radiator:

There are several radiators that could be adapted with time.  The Griffin race radiator for Chevrolet Universal Installation is 16" High and 27.5" wide and only $189.  A truly superior radiator but custom mounts and hose lengths must be used..
