3SGTE Distributor Plug SOS

The 30 old wiring on the male connector for the distributor finally gave way. Heading to the junkyard tomorrow, are there any other Toyotas that share the same plug with the first gen 3sgte? That or where I can find a replacement, trying to repin the plug looks like itd be a pain.

Its actually not that bad to repin a new connector. Pop the lock off and use a safety pin to release the "latch" and slide the wire out with the crimped on bit.

Thanks so much for the reply! Yeah I think I'll give it a go tomorrow, so there's a latch for each individual wire that releases the black chamber the wire sits in too? I was thinking they were fixed to the plug

It's sort of a difficult to explain. The best tool I found to depin a plug was actually just a regular safety pin. They make special tools for it but all the ones I tried I couldn't get to work right. There's a little plastic tab you need to lift up and the wire will come right out.

If possible grab two plugs at the junkyard, and use the worse one to learn how to disassemble the plug. Generally if there's a part that's a second colour, it has to come out, and then each wire will have a little safety catch to release it.

I tend to cut needed pigtails off from salvage vehicles, then cut off the original connector and solder the wires of the salvage pigtail back onto the wiring harness, so as not to mess with removing the pins and reinstalling them in other connectors. I guess it's a 6 of one / half-dozen of the other (personal preference). One the pigtail is soldered and taped (with electrical tape), those repairs have always worked well for me.
