rebuild cylinder head

Postby superalltrac » Sun Aug 29, 2004 2:40 pm

Has anyone rebuilt there cylinder head themselves? I was wondering what I should replace if I decide to take on this project myself. And has anyone done a valve adjustment themselves and what changes did it have?
thx

I'd recommend removing the head yourself, but take it into a machine shop for the valve job. They can also skim the deck if it's not flat. It's not that expensive...I think mine was $325 Cdn. The only downside of course, is that YOU are not doing the work, and thus you have to trust someone else. For example, the shop I sent my head to decided it needed to be painted with aluminum paint, ostensibly for corrosion protection. I guess they didn't notice that it didn't weigh 100 lbs like a cast iron head.
