WTB: ST185 Front ABS Sensors

Sat Mar 02, 2019 8:46 pm

Does anybody have a set of front ABS sensors for a ST185 (may be the same for ST165) they'd like to sell? My right one is destroyed, but would be a set if available.

Thanks!

They are basically unavailable. I have tried for years to get some. I e seen them listed for around $300 each a few times but limited to no stock. Best bet is to buy some cheap Camry sensors and make them fit.

I did notice that Evo lancer sensors are very very close in size shape and orientation, and I purchased som e but haven't been able to make time to fit them.

These are the ones I bought.

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/302527556274

I'm not suggesting it but it's the closest match I've found after looking at a few hundred sensors.

The other option are the ls300/Camry sensors you'll have to make smaller.

89542-20020 is the OEM front right ABS sensor part number for 90-91 ST185's. That same part number was used on 90-93 Celica GT-S models equipped with ABS (of which I have a 1992 version that has this same part number). I would think the used availability would be good for GT-S models in salvage yards (although not all came equipped with ABS). It also appears that Amazon has one available (which seems extremely unusual):

It's still almost $200 and it also says ships and sold by amazon in 1 to 3 months, meaning they don't have it.

Finding used sensors in decent condition is going to be extremely difficult because after 25 years of heat cycling they usually break if you try to remove them. End up having to buy an entire knuckle with the ABS sensor still attached.

Best option is still to modify some cheap $10-$15 Camry sensors and swap the plugs. When the weather warms up a bit I'm going to try those lancer sensors to see how they fit.

Which model do we need? I also need a front ABS sensor.

I tried my luck with Amazon, but that one sits in limbo. I might have found a used replacement for the right side and actually (by some stroke of luck) found an affordable NOS sensor for the left front. It does appear a ~1993 ES300 sensor is pretty damn close (and widely available), requiring some modification of the support brackets. Personally I'll probably pick one up, cut the sensor off near the base and splice it into the Alltrac loom.

I'll provide an update on how successful that is.
