dashboard dimmer switch burnout

Postby gausi93 » Wed Jan 16, 2013 8:14 pm

Good day
So i own a 1995 gt-4 st205 since june 2010.
Year and a half after i bought it, the dimmer switch burnt with additional smell and smoke.
Bought a used one, installed it, 4 months later it went the same way as the old one.
Lights in the dashboard (blue instead of the original) and lights in the heater control unit and the cigarette lighter
are the only things that go out with the dimmer switch.
the cigarette lighter is not in use while this happens.
The designated fuse is in place (15amp).
So just wondering, have any one of you dealt with this problem or have an idea for a cause for this happening ??
Thanks, Gausi

Probably the LEDs. They might be drawing to much current if they were installed improperly. Just because it doesn't blow the fuse does t mean it can't cook that switch over time.
