hello all!

My name is Carlos Sabillon i am a aviation mechanic in the Navy based out of central California. i just acquired my very first ST165! I purchased the car from the second owner who has had it for 30 years, and is also a Toyota technician. I got a slew of sealed Toyota parts for it to include a TRD LSD which i was stoked about! The vehicle runs great for sitting close to 2 years. most of the stuff on the vehicle is brand new or with very little miles. Currently sitting at 112k miles.

i am happy to be a part of this forum and look forward to learning from many of you as info on these are insanely difficult to come by.

wow, that's very low miles for the age. nice find! Are you going to modify the car or keep it "factory fresh" running?
welcome!

Wow what a great find! Welcome and looking forward to many ownership and repair tales.

Thanks man! It was my neighbor who sold it to me, if it wasn’t for that I would have never landed it.

Agh man I’m torn! I would love to throw some more power at it, it’s been a long time since I’ve had a Japanese performance vehicle, last one being a Z31 turbo like 11 years ago. I should mention this one has a engine out of I think a 89 MR2 the PO purchased the short block brand new from Toyota and put it in, Headstuds, cometic head gasket, the upgraded ct26 and aftermarket clutch which I can definitely feel lol. I have receipts for like everything this man has purchased which is nice.

Saw the photos but now they are gone. I wonder what kind of downpipes he gave you?

Weird, I did them through the website and did the photos medium size. One downpipe doesn’t have a brand the other is a aussie.

Engine would have to be out of a 90+ MR2. 89 had the 4ag, not a 3S. Did the head get swapped or just the short block?

Thank you for the correction! Would that be considered a gen2? Yes he did get a new head for it as well. He mentioned how not everything transferred back over, not sure if you can see the picture of engine on top but he couldn’t get the factory turbo heat shield back on so improvised, I think it has the dual entry ct, I won’t know for sure though unless I pulled it off.

Hi Carlos, congratulations on your find. I also own a 165 for 20+ years and they are a lot of fun. I live in South Cal so maybe one day we can get together. I am also Navy BMET.

Thanks man! I hope I can keep mine as long as you all have had yours, I have a bad habit of running through cars. Very cool man! I’m an AD. You on 32nd st or north island?

Just picked up a set of these old school works ewing RSZ wheels! They are unfortunately 5x114.3 so I will be running adapters until I can piece together the conversion parts.
