radiator fan blade: straight or curved

Postby gpmarzan » Tue Jul 01, 2008 8:09 pm

im thinking of replacing my 10" puller fan to a 12" as there seems to be a good amount of room for a bigger fan. Which do you guys think is better, a curved blade or straight blade design or does it make a difference?

A couple of factors come into play like motor speed, and blade width.. but motor differences aside, given the same length and same width, a curved blade will have more surface area than a straight one.

The figure you want to pay attention to is the CFM.. I could care less whether or not its curved or straight..

I run two 12" fans with straight blades, though simply because they were the highest CFM fans available (very wide straight blades).

Rumor has it curved blades are slightly less noisy, though the only proof of this I've ever seen seems to be in very small fans, e.g. 5-7".

Lots of fast, loud things.
