Driving in 2WD mode?

Hey guys,

I know this has been discussed before at length, but my memory is failing me.

How far, and at what speeds are generally considered "safe" for driving in 2WD mode on our drivetrains? Or, is it generally considered NOT SAFE to ever drive in 2WD mode?

I have some dyno time coming up and it would be easiest if I had that set up prior to arriving at the tuner's...however I could be convinced to have it towed in.

Anyone have experience with this?

:)

just did some searching....looks like it's not safe to drive on at all. Please feel to comment tho.

Just have them throw it up on the lift and throw it in 2wd mode. It will only take a few minutes.

Why aren't you dynoing in 4wd? I had to do 2wd bc of some some issues with the 4wd dyno, but I def. would have rather been able to do it in all 4

BTW: Is this your 205 you are going to dyno? I thought the 205 lost the drive selector lever?

No this is the 165. :) I am getting the Power FC properly mapped b/c I am not satisfied with my street tune. It's really tough to do right without a controlled environment.

4wd dyno would be better yes, however more important is the tuner. And he only has 2WD dynos. I did dyno on a 4WD Mustang dyno a long time back, but that was just a one run WOT deal. Managed 236whp at the time.

how do you drive in 2wd mode? isn't it fulltime 4wd?

like cms said, just dont drive in 2wd.

it is fulltime 4wd, but there is a selector on the trans axle that will allow you to change that, please read the BGB before messing with it. please.

I think griffin made a detailed post on what to do to dyno in 2wd mod. It might be in the faq, but it is a good read.

That rings a bell. Will go searching. :)

I think I'll be getting it towed in.

Dyno done, was a success. Ended up just driving to the shop and switching it when I got there. 4 hours of tuning...well significantly less time than that actually spinning. Everything held up great, no issues whatsoever.

Key things, did the pulls in 3rd gear, used 1st and 2nd sparingly. Never put it in reverse as this is explicitly stated not to in the BGB.

FWIW, I use Redline MT90 fluid.

So there you have it. I honestly wouldn't be concerned, especially if you're producing modest power levels.

Oh before - first runs were as low as 180whp, then with boost, timing, and a/f adjustments we saw up to 234. Didn't push it higher than 17psi due to how it responded, and the water injection was not turned on.
