EDIT: Will be updating the initial post as informative rather than inquisitive!!

Anyone happen to know the weight of:

4AFE with "C" series transmission:

"The 4A-FE with all auxiliaries comes in around 340 lbs."
*The average five-speed C-series transaxle weighs about 70lbs with shifter bellcranks and bearing/fork, but no clutch, fluid, or axle stubs.
*C52 with LSD weighed in at 36kg (79 lbs). and with the shafts (complete), 50kg(110lbs) (DRY).
*C52 without LSD from AW11 4AGE 38kg (83lbs) (WET) no shafts/stubs/etc.
*Duralast "Gold" series axle for 1996 Corolla 4AF-E is 14.33 lbs. 2x 14.33= 28.66 lbs.

340+83+28.66(shafts/stubs)= 451.0 lbs

5SFE with "S" series transmission:

"The 5S-FE with all auxiliaries (alternator, air conditioning compressor, etc.) comes in at around 429 lbs."
*The average five-speed C-series transaxle weighs about 70lbs with shifter bellcranks and bearing/fork, but no clutch, fluid, or axle stubs.
*S51/54: 90.4 lbs (DRY)
429+90.4= 519.0 lbs

1MZE with E153 "E" series transmission:

*1MZFE w/VVT-i 346lbs
*E153 5-speed Manual transmission 120-136lbs (DRY) with axles.
346+136+fluid(?)= ~482 lbs

3SGE with "S" series transmission:

3SGE (RWD, non-BEAMS), 315, DRY? Ancillaries?
S51/4 "S" series transmission:90.4 lbs (DRY)
315.0+90.4= 405.0

3SGTE with E153:

3sgte and E153 transmission 270 kg with fluids (including W2a intercooler)
595.0 lbs

Thanks!!

The 5S-FE with all auxiliaries (alternator, air conditioning compressor, etc.) comes in at around 429 lbs.

The 4A-FE with all auxiliaries comes in around 340 lbs.

Can't answer the question on added weight with gearboxes, and you didn't define if you are wanting manual or automatics. You can assume manuals weight about 90 lbs and automatics around 120 lbs. Then you have the weight of the clutch, bell-housing, starter, and related, which you can assume to be in the 35-45 lb range.

Thank you 93celica!

I was wondering in terms of 5/6MT gear boxes (manual), but I appreciate the ratio and comparison! And I also wanted the weights with ancillaries, so thanks for reading my mind.

This is much different than the specs I have (I still didn't have 4AFE, as I could only find 4AGE's, which are similar but the AGEs are lighter).

I have heard that the transmissions which mate to "S" series engines are heavier though... Any thoughts on that?

This is what I have for my last ballpark:

-AE86 4AGE16V with T50 weighs 328 lbs
-Celica 5SFE with S54 weighs 519 lbs
-3SGTE and E153 weighs 595.248 lbs [with fluids] (including W2a intercooler)

The 4A-GE is slightly heavier than the 4A-FE. The blocks are nearly identical, and both are cast iron. The 4A-GE in later versions was a bit more reinforced. The main weight difference is in the head. With the greater angle between exhaust and intake valves (23 deg. vs 50 deg), the GE heads are wider, so they weigh more. Not significantly more, but the GE's weigh a bit more than the FE's.

Very interesting...

One could make an argument that 7AFE's light-weight chassis would pretty much destroy and outhandle and AE86. Very interesting stuff. I even felt my AE101 stock had a faster 0-60 than the GT-S AE86.

Happen to know the difference between the 7A and 4A? I would assume since the 7 is bored out, and an increase in fluid capacity, that it would be slightly heavier but I wonder how much..

Thank you 93 celica, what a great little page. Looks like something from Bill Sherwood.

Just curious, if you know, was the 4AFE/5SFE weights you quoted wet or dry?

Thanks again. Love this site. The miata.net of Toyota.
