ST205 gearbox... crunches on changing up to 3rd?

Hi all,

I have a ST205 gbox in my ST185.

Ive found recently that when accelerating hard, and changing from 2nd into 3rd gear at high revs, the gbox sometimes crunches quite badly.

Changing 4th down to 3rd is perfect, as is every other gearchange.

Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Could a better gbox oil (like Redline MT90) help fix the problem?

probably a synchro slowly giving up the ghost. Good gear oil can definitely improve the shifting feel. Since you say it only happens at higher rpms, better fluid is even more likely to help.
