C-clips on shift cables

In the process right now of disconnecting the shift cables from my car. The C-clips that hold the shift cables down on the engine side are kicking my ass. Any advice to get these bad boys out?

Flat tip screwdriver.
Stick it 90* to the clip, use the long side of the tip as a lever; twist.

After some WD-40 and some intense pulls with a pair a pliers I finally got them out! Now just feeding the new cables through the fire wall is kicking my ass lol
