More done today...

Stripped down the CT20b to the CHRA.
Discovered it has a ceramic turbine wheel unfortunately :(
Comp and turbine wheels look in good condition though.

Also did some more test fitting various parts of the engine.
All good so far, cant see any problems besides the plastic cam covers not fitting up (was expected).

Need more room in the shed, there is half a RA28 (RA29 '77 Celica for you Americans) 1UZ-FE project in there too :(

you could just give me your 5s motor. that'd clean things up a bit. lol. but seriously, how do you tell if its a ceramic compressor wheel or not?

None of the CT26/CT20B have a ceramic compressor wheel, they are all aluminum.
Its the exhaust wheel thats either steel, inconel or ceramic.

I just gave the end nut section on the exhaust wheel a small scratch with a sharp tool.
It was obvious its ceramic.

Big box of parts just arrived from Amayama (very much recommend these guys!!).
Includes goodies like 205 front brake caliper pistons & rebuild kit, caldina map sensor, engine orings/seals, bonnet stay clips and dash cup holder spring clips :)

looking good man!

couple of questions...

- what oiling system are you going with? gen 4? Just so u know ATS racing and an automotive engineer both have determined that based on impeller size and design the gen 4 pump flows more oil than any other compatible 3s/5s pump design.

- do you plan on upgrading your cams? and if so how do you plan on overcoming the hall sensor dilemma on the head?

- What EMS are you running?

I only heard that info about the Caldina pump being better after i sold my gen3 sump :(
So ill be running the +98 5S pump with a modified gen2 sump or Moroso sump.

Staying with the factory Caldina cams for the moment.
If i wasnt, fitting the sensor tooth to the end of the cam wouldnt be much of a problem.

ECU will be a Megasquirt3 + MS3X.

Progress has slowed a bit recently due to having to move house.

I need to solve this, will have the down pipe from the bypass lines cut off and a appropriately sized barbed pipe welded on:

A Moroso sump is a no-go for me at the moment, mainly because im concerned with its durability.
This car will go off-road fairly often, and i dont want to end up with a small sump hit cracking the alloy.

So, ive started modifying my gen2 sump using sections from a 5S sump.

The increased size:

Hi , i have a question, i cant make out clearly on this picture,
Can i use the camry pulley with trigger wheel on my 2 gen build, i also have a 98 + oil pump and 205 belt on, are the number of teet the same?
I would like to use the trigger wheel for my SA ECU... THX...

No you cant.
The 5S crank pulley has more teeth.

Ill be machining a few mm off the back of the gen3 pulley, then having a trigger wheel cut and somehow (havent worked out how yet) fixed to the back of the gen3 pulley.

Maybe... the sensor is in a different position, so the trigger wheel might be different also.

Nice build thread. Enjoyed going over it all. I do have oneeeeee question though... May I borrow that engine for a few years... Just a few. :p

With all that work you are doing to make the block capable of handling tons of power, why not just go with a gen 3 or 4 oiling system and pan setup?

A few reasons:
- Wanted a factory crank sensor, so limited to gen4 or +98 5S.
- I wasnt aware at the time that the gen4 pump was the most capable (thought the +98 5S was).
- Finding a gen4 sump would have been very difficult.
- Had bought a new +98 5S pump for 99c on eBay
