Beautiful car, has been inspiring looking through your thread. I got an 88 st165 last year and have been veeery slowly getting it back to where it ought to be. I got it from a kid who brought it here to OR from Colorado, and he bought it in Alabama. Quite the basket case.

Thanks for posting here Mike!
I'm never on Facebook. I follow your lead on a lot of stuff, so it's great when you post on this site.
Love the new exhaust!
I've got the same crappy ebay exhaust you had, and I don't really like it, so I'm looking for something else too.
I've been thinking about having the ST185 HKS Silent Hi Power exhaust custom bent installed.
Is that a straight Cat in your new system or a resonator/muffler? Would you share how much the new exhaust cost?
Thanks again for posting!

Straight cat. It wasn't a requirement but I wanted a cat for environmental and smell reasons :)

Exhaust was about $1300.

I'm also looking to follow in your footsteps on the brakes...
So, 93' ST185 brake calipers will bolt right on without modification? Just need to get new rotors and pads?
Where did you get the calipers & rotors? Looks like they are readily available on rock auto?

You'll need to trim the backing plate as well but yes it will bolt on with the carriers, calipers, rotors, and pads.

Unfortunately I can't tell you how they feel yet because I've run into issues.

1. The right caliper had deep groves on the brake hose face, causing brake fluid to squirt under pressure so I had to replace that.
3. Both calipers had terrible washers that didn't seal the brake hose ontop of that so I had to pick up Toyota OEM washers.
2. Both calipers have extremely loose brake bleeders, making it extremely challenging to bleed because fluid is leaking past the threads.

So basically these refurb calipers have probably been through the ringer too many times. Maybe find a nice used set and rebuild them yourself.

Thanks for the info!
Let us know how well the new upgrade works once you get things solved.
Where did you end up getting the rotors and pads?

StopTech makes a nice kit that includes slotted rotors and street pads for the ST185. I bought them from PartsGeek because it was cheapest.

I would have preferred plain rotors but it was cheaper.

How is your brake project coming along?

If the ST185 Brakes bolt on to an ST165, I wonder if a Wilwood Brake kit would also fit? Last I checked, it seemed they made an ST185 kit, but not ST165.

I have the system all bled and ready to test but WA is currently covered in smoke so I haven't taken the car out to road test.

I believe a Wilwood kit for the ST165 can be had from Revolution Brakes but they don't clear 15" which is what I need. My OZ wheels didn't even clear them with the wheel weights

Finally had a chance to mount the wheels and test out the brakes. Worthwhile upgrade.

Took some pictures while I was out with the wife.
