Really nice find!! Congrats, and what a story. Persistence paid off. It cleaned up nicely. What are your long term plans?

Restoration! I'd like to return to stock as best as I can (minus some potentially upgradeable goodies that are unseen). The car has never been touched upgrade wise and is all original. Really, really hard to find one in that condition, so I'd like to restore it first.
That means getting it running first, replacing parts that need to be replaced. Bringing everything mechanically up to speed. Then body restoration. I have to cut out the current rust pretty soon so it doesn't grow.

The last thing I want to do is kill the originality of the car, but man do I like my 4th gen swap in my MR2! I hope that upgrade bug doesn't bite :)

I hear you. It's yours to do as you please. I agree with bringing it back to running condition/restoring it, but at this point, going Gen 3/4/5 is a must in these cars. Night and day difference. Too many reasons not to. Best of luck. I will be following this thread.

Gen 4 / 5 is probably in the "down the road" works, no doubt. I've done it to my SW20 MR2, but it's a LOT easier with prime. Pretty straightforward, where as the ST185 support is pretty much drop and then figure out wiring on your own. If something grenades in the current motor, I'll be going that avenue almost assuredly.

A small update: I bought all the fuel tank parts from GT4Play all the way in the UK. Purchased a fuel pump hanger, vent tube, filler neck, all gaskets and a few other goodies. Next is a Supra fuel pump, but I can get those in the states. Everything I pull off the thing I'm keeping just in case, but hopefully in the next few weeks I receive everything. The filler neck was backordered but hopefully I receive everything else in the next month. We have a bout 1.5 feet of snow on the ground right now, so work will probably continue when I have all the parts and there's some driveway to put it on haha.

Don't forget to cover that fuel tank access hole so you don't get a bunch of condensation inside the car. On the plus side maybe you could use the snow to hold the tank up when you put it back in lol.

 :p Haha I don't think it works that way! Anyways, I'm way a head of ya on plugging the access hole. I don't like to admit it, but it's from experience.

Here's the current state of the snow. It's melting pretty quick and with the massive rainstorm on Christmas eve / day I might get some driveway back.

I can't wait to start working on this again. Anyways, I have a local guy that has a 90' GTS I'm hoping to pick up parts from soon! Sucks that I sold the GTS I had... but it was way too nice to part out lol.

Would anyone part this beaut?

To save an Alltrac? In a heartbeat, if nothing else is available.

Are the fuel tank parts OEM? Or aftermarket replacements?

It's so clean under there! You got really really lucky with that. Good for you.
Smart move keeping it on the trailer too, IMO. Gives water less chance to hang around.
I would suggest making sure the tarp is removed every now and then on a sunny day, to air it out. Up here moisture loves to hang around.

It's nice to see these getting saved, good luck with the project!

At the time last year, I didn't own the car yet and it seemed like a really slim chance lol. Yeah, it was totally lucky that somehow it didn't get rotted completely out since it was halfway in dirt. Really, I could have chosen any other car for the price but the story got me and I NEEDED it lol.

Anyways, I got my parts already! Woohoo! If we get another nice day soon I'll start cleaning the tank, repainting it and installing the new parts:

Apparently my new hanger didn't come with a fuel pump condenser/suppressor on it... maybe the GT4 and alltrac had a different setup? Anyways, that's the old one and here's the new one:

ACtC-3dQ-jQgFpNbjlUDfv2nNlm5SVEbDOiiWTMwWIcOuk0sRdjUfljwP2Bsc_93zy-xKjutR9C8AAk-ldS5g4I4rMbCZuZTYcrig5OYg3Tzk8gDv68wupAE-xbewP9ybwkMSwLLFDXGahVIUcUIYo0KiAeLcg=w1409-h1041-no

My question is this: is it necessary to hook it back up or can I bypass it? Here's the part number:

90980-04047
or
90980-04061

It's also noted I'm upgrading to a Supra 951-0014 fuel pump. Any additional info I need to know before I start cutting wires?

I believe the Fuel Pump Bracket you purchased from GT4-Play is actually the part # that corresponds to an ST205.

I had looked into this recently e-mailing back and forth with GT4-Play. The part they are selling is Genuine Toyota OEM 23206-74760, which according to toyodiy corresponds to the ST205, but not the ST185.

The Genuine Toyota OEM part # for the ST185 Fuel Pump Bracket is 23206-74540, which is no longer available.

According to GT4-Play the ST205 part # 23206-74760 is compatible with the ST185, but as you are observing, does not come with a suppressor.

If the replacement fuel pump you will be using is no longer the Toyota OEM ST185 Fuel Pump, perhaps you no longer need the suppressor? (would recommend checking the Toyota OEM wiring connections for the Supra fuel pump you will be using). Or maybe it would still be desirable to use the suppressor as the Toyota OEM ST185 ECU is assuming one is installed?

I have never touched the fuel pump in my ST185 so I don't have a solid basis for any advice, just thought I would point out why the suppressor was not included on the ST205 fuel pump bracket you purchased.

I would also send your question directly to GT4-Play and see what they recommend.

I spoke with them, they said this:

"Hi Tippo, Good to hear all has arrived.
From what we hear people don’t reuse the suppressor from the 185 hangar. Unfortunately the dedicated st185 hangars are No Longer Available, the same as the breather tubes and sender units i'm afraid :(
We have tried to order more breathers so there is a small chance we may get the last of them, if we do I will be sure to notify you.
Regards"

So that's what they said about the suppressor. As for the breathers, they don't even have anymore of those coming in!

Also, a bit of an update on the car. I re-soaked the sending unit, old hanger, vent tube and whatever else I could get into another gallon of PB.

Then took apart the gas tank, tore into the rust with a flap disk / wire wheel and ground down all the rust I possibly could. I tried to clean it out with gas tank cleaner which totally didn't work, then I tried acetone which didn't work. I almost gave up before I did some Google-Fu and found somebody gloating about hot water pressure washer / car wash. Brilliant! I brought it over to the car was and the tank came out 100x better than expected inside. All-in-all it took all day to get the tank stripped, cleaned, cut, primed and painted. Here's a bunch of pictures of the day:

Lots of work got done today, huzzah! After a recent breakup I seem to have a lot of time on my hands at the moment. Sooo why not.

Here's the tank getting finished with another coat of paint and rubber coating on the bottom. After that I installed the Supra Fuel Pump. Also, I did put back in the resistor / suppressor since I was reading some Supra forums and people are saying to be safe and just do it. Also wired in some connectors and cleaned up the vent tube (had to shorten it) and sending unit. Anyways, I feel like this came out fantastic.

Lots of pictures here:

Hit a snag... all the lines are toast in the rear. I swear Tecker is a savant (which sucks for me). All brake lines, all fuel lines are 100% toast in the rear. Super annoying. Either way, gas tank install is on hold until I get all new lines. Is there anywhere to purchase pre-bent lines? I know you have to modify them slightly still, but something go off of would be nice.

Here's the current situation (in extremely high contrast):

It looks alarming, but keep in mind, the contrast shows extreme rust.

I purchased the last set of pre-bent lines in the states back in like 2009. Good luck routing them in the stock routing. Even using NiCopp lines I wasn’t able to make it look oem without kinking. Best of luck to you

Bruce ya frickin' jinxed me lmao (kidding). I looked a little bit today, that stock routing area looks like a PITA and yeah, there's no sign of pre-bent lines hanging around anymore. There's some guys in my area that will do it, but it's not going to be cheap if I do. I was thinking about buying braided where I can and then running it in a non-uniform method to the best of my ability. I got a few more phone calls to make though clearly lol

So I scheduled the brake line install. I'm looking to order NiCopp brake lines, but the threads are confusing my search. Half the forum threads say 3/16, the other half say 1/4 brake lines with m10x1.00 connectors. So, which is it for a ST185? To be clear, I'm swapping out all the old steel coated brake lines for NiCopp - front to back. Ordering 50' unless I need more. For fuel send, I see some people saying 5/16 M14x1.5. Can anybody for sure confirm these numbers?

This is the best reference I found in a thread from 2015 from athousandleaves:

For my 185 I replaced the stock rear lines with the following after carefully measuring the original lines:

Brakes 3/16" M10x1.00
Fuel Return & Evap 1/4" Bubble flare (evap line may have had M14x1.5's?)
Fuel Send 5/16" M14x1.5

All working and no leaks... 165 should be similar.

In hindsight I should have just deleted the whole evap line too :bangshead:

Any help would be appreciated!

So just a small update. I put the car up on a friends lift and started at the lines with him. The previous post dimensions were incorrect. Turns out the lines up top front are 1/8" and 3/8" ???? either way, had to postpone because I actually broke my hand taking the car off the trailer - took a few weeks to heal lol. Hopefully I can get this Lazzy running soon. The line routes are an absolute PITA.

Oh also, I got her some new shoes.

SHE RUNS!

What a PITA finishing up the NiCopp lines... Bruce ya weren't joking.

Anyways, Lazzy is running and I couldn't be happier. Definitely didn't run it long since I'll have to change countless belts, hoses, etc etc. I'm also worried about the oil pump after all these years. Anyways, I'll see if I can link a video. Unfortunately after finishing up the rear brake lines and some mishaps (pictured) it sprung a leak up where it was connected on the firewall.

But at least there's some good news. The supra twin turbo fuel pump connected and worked right away. Only problem now is the sending unit isn't registering fuel which blows. Anyways, here's some pictures and hopefully the video:

Nice work!

How do you have two rear tow points? I thought all the 185's only had one. I feel ripped off now.
