Restoration! I'd like to return to stock as best as I can (minus some potentially upgradeable goodies that are unseen). The car has never been touched upgrade wise and is all original. Really, really hard to find one in that condition, so I'd like to restore it first.
That means getting it running first, replacing parts that need to be replaced. Bringing everything mechanically up to speed. Then body restoration. I have to cut out the current rust pretty soon so it doesn't grow.
The last thing I want to do is kill the originality of the car, but man do I like my 4th gen swap in my MR2! I hope that upgrade bug doesn't bite
I hear you. It's yours to do as you please. I agree with bringing it back to running condition/restoring it, but at this point, going Gen 3/4/5 is a must in these cars. Night and day difference. Too many reasons not to. Best of luck. I will be following this thread.
Gen 4 / 5 is probably in the "down the road" works, no doubt. I've done it to my SW20 MR2, but it's a LOT easier with prime. Pretty straightforward, where as the ST185 support is pretty much drop and then figure out wiring on your own. If something grenades in the current motor, I'll be going that avenue almost assuredly.
A small update: I bought all the fuel tank parts from GT4Play all the way in the UK. Purchased a fuel pump hanger, vent tube, filler neck, all gaskets and a few other goodies. Next is a Supra fuel pump, but I can get those in the states. Everything I pull off the thing I'm keeping just in case, but hopefully in the next few weeks I receive everything. The filler neck was backordered but hopefully I receive everything else in the next month. We have a bout 1.5 feet of snow on the ground right now, so work will probably continue when I have all the parts and there's some driveway to put it on haha.
