WTB North/South Crossmember and Tranny

Postby JPJeep23 » Wed Nov 20, 2019 4:50 pm

Hey all,

I’ll be swapping an MR2 E153 into my “half-trac” and I’m looking for a crossmember and tranny (or the shell of a tranny).
Any help or leads would be greatly appreciated!

So do you have the E153 tranny for your project, or are you looking for an E153 tranny for your project?

I guess I did word that oddly. I have an MR2 E153, but to use it I need to swap the linkage so our cables can hook up to it.
Everywhere I’ve scoured for info everyone says I can just turn the linkage around but I see no way of this happening.
So I figured taking an all trac tranny case and stuffing the 153 guts into it. Plus I need the crossmember.

The E153 tranny was also used on 1997-2001 Camry's for the 1MZ-FE (3.0L V6) engine. You may be better off trying to see if you can find this car in a salvage yard somewhere and determine if the "linkages" (not exactly sure what you mean by that term, but anyway) might provide you what use seek.

If you search "www.car-part.com", you will find many Camry's in this year range with 5-speed manual transmissions for sale that were used on V6 engines.

Just a thought.

I did that first actually. Closest FWD E153 to me is $600 from the pick and pull. If i drive 200 miles east I can get one for $300. I got the rear clip from an MR2 for fairly cheap from someone who wasn't interested anymore and clearing house. I found a decent write-up about turning one into FWD. I'd tap two holes for the all-trac shift linkage and move the selector over to the rear.

Here's the write up;
http://www.woodsport.org/forum/showthre ... %29-to-FWD

So i'm looking for the all-trac selector and the North-South cross member. I'm sure I could use the MR2 selector setup flipped but i would rather have the right part installed the first time.

The north-south (front-to-back) cross-member (P/N 51204-20090) can be had from an ST165 or an ST185.

This All-Trac ST-165 is available in a town about 60 miles away from me - might not hurt to find out if the seller is interested in parting it out or not. Or, if you have the budget, offer to purchase the entire car and part it out yourself.
