Yes. A simple manual one will do the trick. Fuel cut is ~12-17PSI (depending on the market and year of the car). I personally wouldn't go much past 10 PSI on a stock engine with factory head gasket. Also, the factory ATA intercooler is quite restrictive, if you can replace that with an aftermarket unit like ARC or Bay Area, you will get about 2 PSI right there.
Cheers for the info, the-replacement intercoolers you speak of are they the front mounted type , I live in the uk so not familiar with the brands you mention.
They are top mount and direct replacement - so very easy to do vs. front mount. Both are discontinued unfortunately. ARC is a Japanese brand, Bay Area was made in the states.

It bolts right in, then you just need a heat exchanger, pump, and some coolant lines to connect it all. Wire a switch for the pump or have it run all the time and that's it.
