91 GT4 Brake Pads

Hi,

Having no technical knowledge about my car I didn't realize that the 91 JDM Celica GT4 brake pads do not match the North American Alltrac... I need to source front (and eventually rear) brake pads for the car. Does anyone know where I should be looking? I read that the 90/91 is different than the 92/93? Are there any suppliers in the Vancouver area?

Thanks in advance,
Zillion

The early st185 jdm uses the same pads as the st165 1988-1989 celica alltrac. The back pads are the same as the USDM st185.

Thanks for the quick reply. My mechanic says the 88 alltrac pads do not match. Maybe I have the later generation brakes?

Wait, should the later version GT4 have the same pads as the 90-93 canadian alltrac? Maybe my mechanic only looked on the other models like gts and gt... :bangshead:

Sorry for ignorance.

I do have an early model car, but my mechanic says the pad on my car looks different than the st165 alltrac pad.

Doing a parts search from toyotadiy shows different part numbers
04465‑20430 Front Pad for 1988 North American TOYOTA CELICA (ST165L-BLMVZK)
vs
04465‑20280 Front Pad for 1990 JDM TOYOTA CELICA (ST185-BLMVZ)

I also found these posts that seem to show the same issues...

I confirm you that I've a 1990 Toyota Celica GT4 JDM with 2 pots... and I'm having hard time to find pad and rotors...

I looked at the ST165 Pad spect and it really doesn't look the same as mine....

yeah i'have'nt looked anywhere too, r u sure it's gonna fit on our 2 pot setup caliper, because i went to partsource, autovalue , napa and even World pac . i basically i went thru almost all toyota pads from corolla to even 4 runners, lol. and 1988 alltrac from what i can remember and it's the wrong one.

Should I just order the st165 alltrac pads and see if they fit?

I was thinking to order EBC greenstuff brakes for the st165 alltrac for my car. Are these any good?

The pic below doesn't seem to match my brakes.

I think you're probably right. I think my mechanic is probably mistaken - I looked at my calipers today... the pads look exactly like the picture I posted... I'm not sure about the dimensions though - but I think it should be ok.

sorry I didnt see this thread earlier but I will 100% confirm that early JDM st185s use st165 front brakes. Rear is the same.

I went with some porterfield brake pads and probably will again.

Ya - my mechanic made a mistake... the ones in the pic are the right ones.... Finding a supplier for these however, is difficult

Thanks for all your help Klue
