UNORTHODOX STREET CRANK PULLY

A few week ago I installed a unorthodox crank pully (3.lbs less than stock)
on my st165. This is a nice and easy mod but it took two people. one to stand on the brake and one to bust the crank nut loose. Took about 20min.
Tools you will need: gear puller, 15mm socket (I think it was) and one
homeboy to step on the brake.
Out come of this mod: to me it seems to use more of the mortor than the turbo. And the turbo spool up faster you can feel it more on the high end.
It took a days or two to realy notice the differance.
FYI

oh yah. glade things are back to norm.

Keep an eye on your oil in upcoming changes bro - those undampened crank pulleys are famous for taking out main bearings.

The damage to these bearings (10k miles) was attributed to a UR pulley:

Here is an article worth reading:

Just say NO to lightweight/undampened pulleys.

That thing so many people call a "balancer" in most cases is not there for balancing at all (some Chevy engines are externally balanced and use a counter-weight on the dampener and on the flywheel/flexplate, i'm not sure how many other engines do the same). It is really a _dampener_, to dampen the harmonics in the crankshaft.

How well the crank is balanced has nothing to do with the need for a dampener.

I like the starter method.

I agree. Used to love the starter method on my 2 old 22r powered pickups. So many non quality breaker bars lost due to starter method. :D
Have since steped up to an impact gun.

This is why I love the All-Trac Net. Sarcasm, and good advice. I was about to get an Unorthodox crank pulley but I think I will change my mind after reading this.

ok....i have done a lot of reading and before people go crazy about all this. on the other end of the crank people put ULTRA lightweight flywheels and that doesn't seem to mess up anything wouldn't that be an absorber for vibrations coming off the crank aswell? i would do a search on the mr2 board b/c there are some good info on there about this. i have it on my car and the main thing is too just make sure you are using good oil.
