Need Input on Ross Manifold/ Stock IC install problem

Ok, Its a long shot but is anyone here running a Ross Intake
on there ST185. I am having definite problems with fitting
the intake with the stock TB and want to make sure that I am
not missing something before bugging Tom Ross again (great
looking manifold and great customer service). Manifold has been
sent back once already to put in cold start injector and make stock
TB bolts work (again great customer service from Tom :) )

Basically my problem is that there is absolutely no room for the
TB with stock A/A installed. Basically there is only 3/4" clearance between
the TB mounting plate (on manifold) and the TB stay. Any thoughts ?
I am sending pics to Tom but want to make sure I didnt miss something :bangshead:

Pictures can be found at :

NOTE: beware of large pictures

Well Tom said no to TVIS

I actually wanted him to modify the manifold to work with TVIS
but he didnt do it (The ross manifold doesnt have the notch in
the flange that stocker does. Notch is needed for the TVIS linkage
to work properly). I am hoping it is not this because I would rather
use the TVIS system then just a spacer. Hmm, can a dremel cut
stainless steel

Thanks

the plate is just a spacer no butterflies just matched holes to keep the spacing the same at the throttle body

Thats as I suspected.

I believe the MR2 owners are supplied with a shorter TB adaptor to deal with this. We have no room for that, so I"m not sure what you can do. Basically you'll have to have a spacer in between the manifold and the head if it is going to ever fit. :( As for it not being centred, not sure what to do. Let us know if Ross fixes this.

Nope its not ATS old car, I bought this off of the original owner
in Potomac Maryland.

I only know of 4 in medium blue pearl
mine, yours which was originally from Philly (to Florida) and then to you
one on Ebay (in NY), not sure where that wnnt
one originally in California, this one had absolutely NO factory options
(think it was/is owned by David H.)

In fact, none of the blue cars above were fully loaded, none had leather,
and mine didnt have system 10 (had upgraded cassette and the power
seat adjustments as options)

Saved,

Thanks about info about spacer, I knew about the manj phenolic
resin spacer. Hoping to save the $200 and also have to worry
about clearance with the firewall. Guess its time to email Tom.

May have to save the manifold for my MR2

Wasn't there a member named CeliGT4 or something close to that who had one on his Celica? The only difference was that his was a side intake affair.

Hopefully someone can page him or if he sees this thread he can at least shed some light on this.

Another suggestion, but might cost $$ is have RMR install it for u.

I don't see how someone with a side feed throttlebody could help one with a center feed and fitting a stock intercooler.

Thanks, Kevin. That's what I was made to believe but seeing Tim's set up I dunno. Of course the TVIS plate isn't in place and it doesn't look like the alignment is that out of whack w/ the air to air. It looks a bit off w/ the water to air, though.

This manifold was in my plan but I'll have to wait and see how Tim's install pans out. Otherwise..... ChrisK.....

I am pretty sure that it was suppose to fit stock. It actually fits better
with the WTA. I did mock it up with the TVIS on the motor (or as good
as I could get it with the interference between linkage and the Ross
manifold) and it did get close. I think that I needed to cut those spacers
that go into the valve cover so the TB stay was lowered enough to bolt
onto the TB. I will probably wait for Toms reply and
see about the phenolic spacer. May see if Manj can custom size one
if I need it. Thanks for the replies, guess I will concentrate on taking the
suspension off this winter. Yes, you guessed it, its being coated in one
form or another.

I know you wanted to keep the TVIS, but removing
it ain't that bad. Nothing a bit of tuning will solve.
You are going to have to tune a but with a new
intake anyways.

I do not miss mine. But if I did it again, I Might
keep it.

Sell the Ross, get a ChrisK to your specs ?

Regards;

Well after talking to Tom at Ross, it appears that having TVIS spacer
may make it hit the firewall, also its canted to the right because Tom
said the factory manifold is not centered (i.e.. a problem) and the Ross
is. I think it can still work if it doesnt hit the firewall with a spacer or
gutted TVIS plate.

SO, can anyone measure the distance between the firewall and the
back of the factory intake manifold. Knew I shouldnt have sold all
my other alltracs until I got this one running

This may end up going on my MR2 yet

I don't have any problem...........but then again I am running a FMIC. I CAN tell you though, that you don't want to try and use the TVIS spacers with this manifold though. You will be into the ABS tubing at the firewall is you choose to do so.

Bill, Saved

Thanks. For this manifold to work it WILL need a spacer, else neither
top mount intercooler will fit. The intake pushes the TB too far forward.
I think I will get a spacer and see what happens upon install, its not
like its going anywhere fast anyways.
