If anything ill gain a slight bump in compression as st165's are 8.5:1 and st185's are 8.8. I do want the oil pump though but if its too hard i wont bother

Do you mean it comes with the highest flowing pump for that year? Because a 98+ oil pump has 2 less teeth and needs a 1 tooth shorter timing belt. So i dont know how it would come with the 98 one, but if a 5s pump in general is a high flow pump and i dont have to worry about timing belt stuff, that would be much easier.

I Hate being confused

Any 5s pump is better then a 3s, using the 98+ pump only changes flow by spinning it faster. I run the reg 5s pump in my 3s and it flows great! Unless you want rpms above 8.5 and hp over 550. The 5s pump in the kit is just fine. Above those numbers i would sugest forged everything an a added sump oil pump or high volume oil pan, and about 6 or 7k worth of other upgrades to make the thing run right and safe.

Im only planning on going to about 350whp if i can, since you've used these, do you think the pistons would survive? Im planning on doing arp head studs and cometic HG, but i want to stay "stock" for the internals. Any suggestions?

Just looking for advice and trying to see what works for those who still love their cars but have a tighter wallet

Bump......cause I can lol.

So, I went on ebay after reading here and put together my own list with prices and questions. Am I missing anything? Any recommendations? This is for stock rebuild that I would be content with if I ever hit 300 hp.

Rebuild kit(pistons, bearings, etc)
493 http://www.ebay.com/itm/230814633902

Bottom end gasket kit
65 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cometic-Str...Parts_Accessories&hash=item43c4a3a386&vxp=mtr

Top end gasket kit - Is the 87 mm bore an issue with a stock rebuild?
153 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cometic-Str...Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f2bed88c2&vxp=mtr

Water pump/Timing - Would this timing belt work with a 5sfe oil pump
87 http://www.ebay.com/itm/91-95-2-0L-...Parts_Accessories&hash=item53e813d54f&vxp=mtr

5sfe oil pump - I assume this would work for bumping the oil pressure
49 http://www.ebay.com/itm/96-00-Toyot...Parts_Accessories&hash=item565f48da3e&vxp=mtr

Head bolts - Is it really needed to go ARP if your not looking to exceed 300 hp?

The kit I used in my first post was actually really good and I highly recommend it. Can't beat 340 bucks

That included the bearings for the crank and rod? Were head bolts included?

May just go with that kit and then order the oil pump and a better HG. Still learning all this crap lol.

Oil pump that came with it is actually from the 98-01 Camry so you don't have to get that and yes it came with headbolts and all bearings. Complete kit

What was your total cost of rebuild? Did you need to get any machine work done? And did you use the HG that came with the kit?

Total cost was the coat of the kit. I just had to rehone the cylinders none were that bad. Yes I used the gasket with the kit. Its all just OEM replacement stuff.

One more question cause I didn't see anything in the ebay ad about it.

Did you need to buy a separate kit for a head rebuild? I assume so, but just verifying.
