Dual piston brakes

Postby toronto4wd » Fri Oct 15, 2004 10:40 am

I have a dual piston brake set up on my 1991 ST185 front clip and was wondering if I could swap that in to my 1992 ST185? Any issues? Are pads an issue?

Swap it and see....
Brakes are pretty easy, so it shouldn't take long to see if they fit. Pads might not work though.

I've had these on my GT-2 for over a year now, and i really like them. They seem to have a very good initial bite compared to the stock brakes (although this could be due to the pads). They do seem to fade a little more quickly due to the smaller rotor diameter, but it isn't too bad. The one thing that kind of sucks is that I haven't been able to find replacement pads for it anywhere in North America. Fensport at least used to sell the pads for them, but I think they were around $85 for just basic pads. I was going to convert back to the single pot calipers until i got my All-Trac last weekend which needs a new set of rotors, so i'm gonna hold off on the conversion and decide what I want to do this spring. If you do find a place to buy pads on this side of the Atlantic, please let me know. MR-2T pads from one of the years MAY fit, but i haven't been able to get ahold of any to test this theory yet.

Not strictly a dual piston question, but rather than start another thread i thought i'd use this one.

How much fabrication is involved in getting the 205 brake setup to fit the 165? Was just looking at TRDs website and those grooved discs look mighty fine...
