Big fat sticky tires... and wheels

Okay, just checking here, I was looking at 17x8 wheels, probably Work Wheels, and pretend to be a handling nut. I love it so much. Now, I was wondering if anyone knew the widest tires that i can fit while maintaining stock diameter within 5-6% and what offset i would need to fit those tires onto 17x8 rims with no rubbing inside or out. I also prefer the front and rear tires be the same width for rotation purposes. Offset here is probably the most important, since I will most likely end up having work make me the wheels to a custom offset.
Thanks

the widest ive seen was 245 on an alltrac... i bet the rear could fit 255 or maybe wider but not the front... and you need to run the same size for awd...

but if you do go that big make sure you get the proper offset or proper spacers so you wont rub
