ST185 Rear Shock Availability

I've been battling between switching to coilovers to replace my old, worn, and original suspension.

As many know, the front strut cartridge is still widely available in the United States. The rear struts are a more industry common single assembly where there is no "cartridge". The strut body and cylinder are one welded piece. Unfortunately, the rear strut is not available in the US. There are replacement parts in the EU/UK and Japan. Shipping these internationally can be frustrating as they fall under a "compressed gas cylinder" just like a bottle of oxygen or any other gas would.

Most companies I reached out to import struts had to deal with hazardous material shipping issues. I stumbled upon http://www.rhdjapan.com and they said they were able to ship these to the US without any special handling charges. Woo!

Sure I'm getting close to a low-end set of coilovers when all said and done, but I'm not a low-end-coilover type of guy.

Thought it would be good to share a source for these! Shipping was fast!

Nice find! High end dampers > low end coilovers for sure. Hold on to your old rears, later on you can convert them to take inserts should you need new dampers and these become NLA as well.

I had a 165 that had the rears converted with inserts. Either it was done poorly or old, but it didn't seem to work well.
