MAP sensor compatability

I need a new Map sensor. i was wondering if it would have to be replaced with one from another 3sgte, or would a 5sfe map sensor work. Also. are there differences in the st165 MAP and the st185 MAP sensor.

For sure, a 5S-FE wouldn't give you any proportional voltage while in boost. What is the part number of the Map sensor that you have to replace?

That is a 2nd gen sensor. You should use another 2nd gen map sensor, to be sure that you have the right one. 89420-17030 seems to be a Turbo MR2 sensor, from my search. 89420‑20140 would work too, I think. My ST185 had that sensor from the factory. If you ever want 89420‑20140, I have 2 of them and I have a 89420-17030. Where are you located?

Hey quick question on this note, I got a universal msd map sensor and was wondering if this guy could be part of my stalling dilemma... I know I know, I should have researched first but at the time it seemed to be the right direction. Please yell at me and tell me to get a factory map...
Thanks :bangshead:

Map sensor on the ST165/ST185 is only there for boost cut... it shouldn't cause problems otherwise. (many people run them disconnected from the engine to allow higher boost)

If you have an ST205 (gen3 3s-gte) motor and electronics, then the specific map sensor is quite important as it is key for fueling.

The thread is very old, but, sMARTINside, do you still have an extra 89420-20140 that you would be willing to part with? We have two ST185's in the family and would really like to have a spare of these. Let me know if you do.
