The switch is to disable the awd for towing.
Not to be used for daily driving. But I have done it.
It does not disengage the center diffs.
> dont know about 5spd manual.
There are some around.
A few have been converted to All_trac turbo & 5spd.![]()

maybe i need to read my owners manual about that switch. i never knew its for towing. if its to disable awd, its going to run fwd? rwd?
did the 5spd manual have the switch for awd?

Both. It just unolcks the center diff, -to allow slippage.
I still would not want to tow it far.

I dunno, I got an auto AT Camry.

well, if we're counting JDM cars as well, there was an AllTrac Supra. it used the 1G-GTE engine.

All Supras were inline 6 striaght cylinders. Kind of Hard to
add 4wd ?
Where oh where does it mention awd/4wd in that thread ?
If you have a source I'd Love to learn more.
Plus All_Trac was a US market term only.
Celicas were GT4s in japan and Europe.
There was an Interesting JDM 4wd V8 Aristo (GS400 USDM) with an auto tranny only.

ya know... i have seen an alltrac supra, but it was ONLY used in safari rally. unfortunately, i cant even find any record of that.
then again, toyota DID create an AWD MR2 (MKI style) that was apart of the Group S Rally series.

electronic parts catalogue shows GA70 to be RWD...... deffo no 4WD alltrac Supra
The TTE supras (safari spec) were also rear wheel drive:
Indeed the Group S "MR2" is 4WD and one of only 12 prototypes built with both transverse & longitudinally mounted 503E lumps..

one of the few things that i truly hate about toyota...
we, in the US, were not offered the same 1999 Corolla as the UK. i want that specific Corolla with the TTE body kit, and i'd go thru the hell of making it into a true AllTrac.
but no... the US gets the 'low end' toyotas. argh!
and, while i understand that the Matrix is basically the UK Corolla, in my eyes, it just isnt...

i've got loads of TTE pics on my photobucket account.

The above AE111 Corolla was only available in 2wd guise. TTE took full advantage of the new WRC regulations and built a formidable rally car. Something like 400 man hours plus to strip it down and re-engineet it to 4WD WRC spec. iirc The last of the TTE Corolla's used a turbo charged Lexus IS200 3sge beams engine / block ...

OMFG.................................
WOW. i'd slaughter many mindless humans to sit in that MR2... let alone drive it...
obsessed? yeah. just a bit.
i've honestly been thinking of how to 'create' an AWD mr2... the transmission and 'front' differential would be the most difficult piece as far as i can recall.
i guess that would help to explain why the 503e is reserved from the 3sgte, as far as placement of cylinder 1, etc. if i'm not mistaken, the rotating direction of the crank, cams, etc is also reversed.
that would almost be like having 5 or 6 'reverse' gears and 1 'forward' gear, in comparison to the standard alltrac setup.
----
oh yeah, and more than any other car on this planet, i want to own/drive an AWD Corolla with the full TTE body kit. basically, the WRC car.
and yes, it would be my daily driver, and i would work on that car nearly every weekend with a smile on my face and bloodied hands.
i want that car more than the Lotus 7, Elise or Exige. the McLaren F1 LM is very nice, but not my taste. the Bugatti Veyron is a technical super achievement, but i think it's hideous and 1000hp from a 16 cylinder, quad turbo engine does not impress me (*cough* 503e *cough*). even the Mercedes 190 Cosworth edition doesnt hold a candle to that Corolla...
