Idle Air Control Valve

is that the little bastard with the black plastic screw in it? The screw has a spring behind it? If so mine isnt under the TB, its more off to the side on the drivers side of the car. I've tried adjusting it, but it doesnt do squat

Chris, what your describing sounds like the idle adjustment for the ac.

No. The ISC valve. It's attached to the throttle body.

Not the A/C idle up.

This.......
sounds like ac idle up.

you should be able to blast air through the coolant lines on the IAC and that should clear up any problems with it. careful with pressure.

there are coolant lines running to the ISC valve.

I'm not sure if or how running pressure through the lines will fix the ISC valve if it's faulty. Bang on it, or get a new one.

Peace.

if the car sits a lot or has cruddy coolant in it or has some debris floating in the coolant 9 out of 10 that's where it'll clog. that's why you blast it out.

good thinking.

we did that on my old ST162.

But becauase we were trying to get all the old crap out of the coolant sys.

Hmm, that's an interesting point, the coolant in my AllTrac is VERY nasty (I needed to get the engine running before I could properly flush it though), which might have something to do with this. I'll definately run some radiator flush through it this weekend and put in some good Toyota red coolant.

You got the manuals ? Or guessing ?

> The tb does, but not the isc valve.

The water lines connect to the throttle body
on the bottom. The ISC IS on the bottom of the
of the throttle body as well. Hence it has
coolant flowing around in.

! there are coolant lines running to the ISC valve.

Right you Are. I am not Sure on the 1st gen,
but probably the same set up as the 2nd.

! I'm not sure if or how running pressure through

I am Not sure either. It is a little magnet in a
coil, the ECU switches current to flap it opened
and closed. It would be Hard to clean with a
blast of air. You would need to take it apart 1st.
It is usually carbon build up too. Nothing but a
solvent is going to get it clean.

! Bang on it,

That may damge it ?
It is pretty simple, if time consuming; to clean.

! or get a new one.

And new screws, they strip when you take
them out. And the frggin little gasket for it too.
I got two in case.

I would be afraid to ask what one would charge
for the Whole ISC from Toyota.

@ Problem has been traced to flakey TPS and IAC,
@ the car idles great now that that's been fixed.

Glad it worked out,

@ Now I just need a new mid-pipe so I can pass emissions @ (damn rotted flexpipe).

good luck on the rest.

May I suggest the JSpeed front pipe from bullet proof
Automotive ? 2.5" easier to fit, less chance of getting
hit...

Or else the whole DP & CP from Aussie. 3" for max power ?
People weld in new flex too, relatively cheap.

Regards;

Actually, I found someone in Maryland who's gonna sell me a good midpipe for $70 shipped, so things seem to be working out nicely. I had to buy a nut splitter though to break off the rounded nuts.

glad you got it working. good luck with everything. oh, i checked with moving my parts alltrac up there, and like 1400 dollars!?! more than i want for the car.

How much are you looking to get for the parts car and how complete is it? I have trailered cars throughout New England (from Southern CT to Northern NH and back) so Maryland shouldn't be all that bad.

i'm looking around a grand. the body is in great shape, minus some easy fix dents. the body kit is beautiful, just 2 minor tears in the bottom of the front bumper from towing. there is no interior for the most part. it has the dash and wheel but nothing else. no doors. bad fuel tank. good drive train. bad clutch. good motor, minus the things i needed to get my swap running. some of the electronics were all i took. good turbo. DP and manifold are good. motor is good. wiring harness is undamaged and computer is there. that's about it. i could put up some pics of it. and to top that i've got a bunch of other parts as well.

I have the manuals and
I had to take it [the iscv] all apart on the gts. It might have coolant flowing around it but there is no coolant flowing through it. If the passage that allowed air to bypass the tb had coolant in it, that would be somewhat of a problem.

Agreed with you there, Brian. Though a little tapping might loosen it up if it's slightly stuck. Easier than pulling it off.
