Visual differences between 3s-gte generations...?

Sooooo, guess who might be back....!

I came across a guy trying to unload a "jdm 3sgte with awd tranny ecu wiring turbo inter-cooler and all other accessories". He doesn't know the Gen of the motor but 'some guy looked at it and told me it was a Gen 2'. It's supposedly been sitting in storage for quite a few years, his project died, blah blah blah. I know I'm going to need to go through it but I actually am in a position where I have the ability to start working on getting my car back on the road...

I just need to know what generation I'm looking at to give myself and him a fair price for the whole shebang. I know most of the differences but a refresher course would be fantastic. In true non-newb fashion, I have searched for the answer prior to asking. If your search comes up with an answer nicely compiled answer, then please be so kind to linky me and I'll be out of your hair.

Are there part numbers that tell the transmissions apart?
The block?
I know gen1 and gen2 have tvis
I believe gen1 has wta. gen2 rc does as well. gen3 does.
gen1 and gen2 have similar if not the same valve cover I think.

any help is appreciated. Pictures even more so.

(I pop on here every month or two and check the for sale stuff...just dreaming to have my 'trac back on the road)

What do you guys think? No air flow sensor comes with it. He's looking for $1k and it comes with the alltrac tranny.

2nd gen as mentioned.

No AFM and the pictures make that thing look real dirty. Plus sitting for years?

I'd pass for 1k.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Thank you!

It's old. In terrible condition, clutch is rusted. You'll have to replace and rebuild everything, without a compression check you don't know anything about it, no warranty. And above all else... You can buy a gen3 on eBay for 1300... A gen2 usdm for 800. They are newer and most have thirty day warranties, leak down tests, and are in considerably better shape on most occasions...
