2AZ is a bit of a strange choice.

The sump in the photo looks like it is made to be tilted?

Why not remove the FBW throttle?
It shouldnt be difficult to bolt on a throttle body from something else.

Have you checked the bellhousing bolt pattern?
Hopefully the gearbox bolts up ok.

The 2AZ is a very over-square (long stroke) engine.
Like most over-square engines, its designed for torque, not top end power.
While it might perform ok, the "fun factor" will be limited :(

I picked the 2az because of the class I'm choosing/forced to run this car in. Out national series doesn't allow ameature rallyists the use of a turbo.

The class is called open light & allows naturally aspirated 4wd vehicles w/ a displacement cap of 2.6l. The 2az gets me close to that displacement limit, has a huge aftermarket support, makes good torque, super cheap, & readily available.

To put it in perspective I sprung a leak in one of my water pipes on my 1st gen 3s, the part alone cost $600 and there were none available in the states. This entire Scion long block cost me $500. With intake, headers, exhaust, & managment I should be close to the factory 3s hp/tq figures which is more than enough to have some fun on the gravel. There are guys online making 230whp with the BC cams & supporting mods.

Don't worry my red all trac will remain 3s turbo.

I used to do marine fiberglass, how much different is CF? i was thinking about making some stuff for my 185.

It's pretty similar as far as laying it up for vacuum bagging.

I use spray adhesive and then lay my fabric to get it to stick in the tricky places before I inject the resin. That's the only real trick I use. Sometimes if the part doesn't come out clean I'll sand it & automotive clear it.

Ahh, fair enough then :)

Never thought there would be a mod market for 2AZ's.
We only got them in RAV4's here in Aus.

Im considering buying a 2AZ powered RAV4 at the moment, so itll be good to see what you do with the engine, and the resulting performance.

Looking good!
Could you have gone with a 3sge instead of a 2zz ?
What type of pipe did you use on your cages ?
And were could I source that hood vent on your white one

Think that is an 80's era dodge vent from the turbo'ed cars like the Daytona, Aries, etc.

Also think he said the 2az was being used cause it has higher HP and better aftermarket support.

The cage tubing is 1.75" .095 walled seamless DOM. Some of the bars in the cage are done in 1.5".

The hood vent is from a dodge Daytona.

I went with the 2az because its a big displacement aluminum motor that bolts up to the all-trac tranny. I can pick the long block up by myself, I could never do this with the 3sgte. I'd imagine that with the turbo/intercooler & all it's pumps the 3s is close to 200lbs heavier. Did I mention these motors are cheap as shit! I just picked up a long block for $100.

I'm going to get the car running stock all motor for the class we will be racing in, but I have every intention of eventually putting a turbo on the 2az.

If your bored here's a good article on a Turbo'd 2ar the sister motor of the 2az.

Corner weighted the white car, this was with a 220lb ballast in the driver seat, full tank of gas, & a full size spare & jack. The car has a stock 1st gen 3S, stock exhaust & down pipe, stock suspension & brakes. It has bucket seats, aftermarket bumper bars, manual windows, & no interior.

I think it's realistic to get these cars to 2500lbs. Unfortunately I won't be able to see how light a celica can get. Both cars are having 250 lbs of cage added to them. :|

We took the white car apart to prepare it for a cage. The car was filthy so we pulled the drain plugs & power washed the shell.

I am really curious to see how the engine turns out. I think a lighter engine might be a way to go. Especially with the huge aftermarket for that one.
