Can someone help me decipher my vin #

image_zpsfwtebifd.jpg

Can some explain it to me?
It says drivetrain 2wd? And also the l in the vin means hatchback instead of turbo4wd.
But it is in the 3s engine family, wtf is going on?

I used this link to try to figure it out.
http://www.alltrac.net/VIN.htm

J=Japan
T=Toyota
2=passenger car
S= engine family
T=Celica?
88=gt4
P=?
1= check number
L=1990
0= ?
0=?
0=?
2=?
O= supra plant
2=?
8=?

When I enter your VIN into the Toyota EPC, the following information is given:

Frame# ST185-0002028
Model Name/Catalog Code: 252460, Celica, 198909-199309
Model: ST185L-BLMVZA
Production Date: 1989-12
Color Code: 3H4
Engine: 3SGTE
Body: LB
ATM/MTM: MTM
WIB
USA

I'm guessing the EPC more accurately matches your actual car?

I think it's the decrypter messing up, not the VIN

J = Made in Japan
T = Toyota
2 = Car
S = S series engine
T = T series chassis
88 = 185 chassis
P = ???
1 = check digit
L = 1990
0 = (probably an O) Supra plant
002O28 = (probably 002028) production number

EPC sounds a lot more like it.
Weird that would throw it off so much.

So I looked at the sticker on my door.
Looks like I'm #451! Got one of the first 1/3rd alltracs that landed in the states.

That's unfortunate :/
I'm still trying to find out where mine was originally from but I'm not having any luck.

If you register on the Toyota owners website, it may show you the dealer than originally sold the car when new under "View specs"

http://www.toyota.com/owners/web/pages/home

It shows the dealer for some of my cars, but not others. Any dealer can also run a vehicle details report, which shows standard and optional equipment, port-installed accessories, color/trim codes, date of first use, original selling dealer, recalls/SSCs, dealer service history, etc. You can also run a vehicle history report (Carfax, etc) to get an idea of where it was registered, inspected, etc. Those reports show a lore more than just accidents.

tried the web site,showed 3 services back from 06 but didn't list the dealer called my local dealer and they looked it up couldn't find original selling location. although they did find the service locations all in Ohio :doh: oh and they and the dealer had it as a turbo celica .. 2wd...lol

Only showed 1 service for mine front and rear alignment 11/06 in albuquerque, nm which is where I bought the car in 11'
