Another PACNW Camry All Trac

I've been a toyota guy for a long time. so when my sister asked me to help her find something cheap and that would get here up to the mountains (we live in the PAC NW) for snowboarding I thought an all trac camry would be a good fit for her. So we pick up a camry all trac which she proceeded to run on low oil and blow the motor. So it's been sitting at my house for a while and I finally convinced her to sell it to me.

I have a ton a questions about the awd system, best manual trans to mate to 3sgte and the possibility of changing the 50/50 split to something a little more oversteer happy.

Yea another Camry! I've been using mine for snow driving the last few winters now, works pretty good.

I put an ST205 Diff and 165 or 185 (don't remember) rear swaybar in. Definitely steps the rear out now.

Welcome. I can't really see your pictures you might want to resize them or something.
I think they designed the car to understeer by having the rear track narrower than the front. I am not sure if it is the LSD alone, or that combined with the 25mm wider on each side, but with the 205 rear in there mine seems happy to over-steer if I try. Not sure about for grip driving I haven't done any of that at the limit, but it drifts and does endless donuts pretty good. lol
I know the sway bar plays a big part in it also like Dutchman said. I have not compared them yet to see but you think the 185 or 205 has a larger swaybar?

I couldnt figure out how to resize the images so I just made them links.

How did you get 25mm wider on each side? does the entire 205 diff bolt in? or do you have to swap internals?

The entire rear subframe will bolt in. ST205 has longer control arms and axles. Camry wheels won't clear the 205 brakes, and you will probably need to clearance the fender otherwise it'll rub.

The ST205 diff also installs into the Camry subframe, but the Camry axles will need to be modified to fit (bolt pattern is different). You could use 165 or 185 axles with no mods IIRC.

EDIT: when I say diff I mean the case + diff. They are very similar, but I'm not sure if you can install a 205 diff in a Camry housing.

No problem. I've got some pictures of the bolt pattern differences, that's about it. I'll see if I can dig them up.
Btw, the gen2 Camry people at ToyotaNation are awesome, especially when it comes to the Camry-Celica differences and Camry repairs.
