FS: 92 ALLTRAC unfinished project

Postby gt4ferko » Fri May 17, 2019 10:00 pm

Decided to give up on my project.
1992 Celica alltrac with about 280k original miles
Vehicle currently runs and moves but has a very basic tune with a megasquirt ECU
Issue is the car smokes sometimes, has good compression and I don't have the time or money to move any further on it

Chassis:
Engine bay partially shaved and repainted
Whole underneath of vehicle was all rust repaired and undercoated
Just about every removable piece underneath was powder coated and all poly bushings
Rusty sway bar mounts remade
Brand new steering rack with tie rod ends

Braking:
Abs deleted
All brand new brake lines ran inside car
Braided steel brake hoses
St205 rear brakes
Wms front brake kit

Engine trans:
Gen1 block
Gen3 head
New gen 1 head gasket
Walbro 255
Hks cam gears
All fuel lines new and ran inside car
Custom fmic
Full custom 3 inch exhaust
Act extreme single sprung disc clutch
Mambatek "rotated" turbo
Bullet wastegate
Tial knock off bov

Might be a few things im forgetting there

Body/exterior/interior:
Replica RC fiberglass hood with authentic quik latch hood pins
RC front bumper
7th gen Celica wheels
7th gen seats
Aem wideband
Aem boost gauge
Center gauge pod

Car needs:
Boost work finished up
Paint
Carpet
Some minor interior attention
Figure out why is it smoking, fix it and get it tuned.
Compression is 145+ across the cylinders cold

Looking for $4000 firm

Car is located in 18051 Pennsylvania

This is the smoke I'm dealing with. And this is a cold compression test.

Aré you running e85? After mine sat for a few months with e85 for the first few minutes/miles it was just water vapor. Scared the heck out of me but hasn’t happened since I haven’t let it sit for that long again. Is your crankcase ventilation hose capped, breathed/filtered or running it into the intake like stock?

Well I had a full gen3 motor. And it had a knock on start up. So I swapped out the block for a gen1 block from a known good motor and oil pump made some noise and smoked a bit (didn't let it run much with the noise).... So I changed the oil pump about a week ago and this is how it's running... I'd love to fix it and keep it, but I'm not sure what's wrong with it and I'm really not interested in tearing it apart again myself.

Hose from iac is open and so is the crank case vent on the valve cover.

New pcv on it

Explain "smokes sometimes". Are there other times when it does not smoke at all?

Is the smoke bluish, or pure white? Does it smell of oil burning, or does it smell as something not like a typical oil-burning engine exhaust?

It's 100% oil. And it is just sometimes more profound than other times. Spark plugs smell a but oily. Oil in the downpipe. Maybe something in the head? Not sure. I really hate to get rid of the car. But I don't want to pull the motor back out if needed and all that.

OK, oil, but you didn't describe times when it is not present vs. times when it is.

Given how little information you provided (so this is speculative), I can think of 3 probable causes (there are many more possible causes, but without knowing more, not worth bringing up).

- Oil rings in pistons shot (unusual if all oil rings are shot - but if some plugs show evidence of oil while others don't, this could be the cause

- Head seating surface to block wasn't check/ground of squareness, so any distortion is preventing a good head gasket seal (oil leak from oil galley transition from block to head, leaking to one or more cylinders)

- Head gasket not right for this combination, or head not torqued sequentially and/or to final torque specs

I completely agree. I've built motors and all before. It's not that I don't know what to check or what could be wrong. It's more that I'm not willing to take it back apart and fix it.

Appreciate all the info. I'm toying with the idea of getting a gen3 complete long block if it doesn't sell. But at this point, I'm really just looking to pass this project on to someone else.

So the compression is 145 across or 185 across because the first post says 145 bit the pictures show 185. Just curious
91 Celica all-trac gen3 swap (small-med $$$ sponge)
69 mustang 408w (large $$$ sponge)
08 sequoia 5.7L
14 avalon
02 taco dbl cab V6 turd
and a 2 car garage :shoots:

Wow!! Can't believe you are selling after putting all that work into it. Was following your build. Hope you keep it and persevere.

I really don't want to sell it. But the fact that it's not running and driving after all this work and I spent more money to get it to this point than I expected, I can't continue it right now
