WTB Throttle Body to Intercooler Connector

Postby Fhawman » Sat Sep 12, 2020 3:47 am

Hey all, 1991 ST185

My connector split all the way around. I found a guy that will make a SS replacement but I would like to stay OEM since the car has no mods or third party parts at all. Does anyone have one laying around? :D

Thanks!

Are you referring to the rubber hose-type connector between the intercooler and throttle body (as shown on the attached)? If so, the reference to "made of SS" threw me a bit.

If so, you might be able to get it from this source:

- https://www.toyotapartsdirect.ca/p/Toyo ... 88382.html

However, the part is discontinued, so either this source has one still left or they haven't updated their website, one can never be sure on these older vehicles. I'm not aware of an aftermarket supplier. And this particular part number was exclusive to the ST185.

Thanks for the link, I looked so many places that had no stock but didn't find that one. It's funny it let me get all the way to the payment screen then gave me this error, made me laugh.

I'll call them Monday, thanks again.

Oh, and the SS I was referring to was a stainless steel fabricated one.

It certainly is not OEM. The OEM doesn't have a hose clamp on the 4-bolt mount to the throttle body. However, while the design is a bit different, I see no reason for it not to work properly. Like the originals, you need to make sure to have those hose clamps very tight and secure (so no leaks). Even the slightest leak seems to cause runability issues.

I just wonder if the connection to a CS/RS intercooler (which I believe is water-to-air, but not sure) is the same size as the North American air-to-air intercooler connector. Does GT4-Play have a similar one for air-to-air intercoolers?

Thanks! That will be a great backup if that OEM one doesn't pan out, it looks like this will work.

IIRC all of the water to air engines have a larger diameter (165/185 RC/205)

St165 and St185 RC are the same size. St205 is bigger. However if you really stretch the st165 one it can fit over the st205 intercooler. This is a quick and dirty way to run an st205 intercooler while still using a 165/185 throttle body.

These couplers are discontinued now - the only option you have is the aftermarket piece from GT4-Play or BRD, used with a silicone joiner.
Given the proximity tot he intercooler, you can barely see the coupler anyway so you won't detract from the overall non-modified look.

The problem with that is its designed for a MR2 it will not fit between the throttle and the stock intercooler, or the A/W IC

ATS does sell an optional shorter version, but I'm bot sure how short it really is or if it's the right diameter to match up with a straight coupler.

You can also try KO Racing. I had one for my 185 CS made. He can shorten it a fair amount I think. I just used a silicone hose from there to the WTA Int.
