Help with Red Top BEAMS

Postby GT4 BEAMZ » Wed Oct 10, 2018 10:56 pm

Greetings all wise and wonderful,

I am in need of some help, I have been scouring the net for a pin out of the Red Top BEAMS ECU, that will tell me what is necessary to read the ECU from and OBD2 reader.
I have the plug and the motor is running great overall, but I want to see if there is any check engine info in the ECU and need to know what to plug into.

Thank you in advance

Here's how we do it on the 4th gen 3sgte. It's pin SIL on your ecu. That ecu pinout pic should be of a red top.

Another way you can check codes that's easy is that TC pin on your ecu is the check engine light. Just run a wire from that TC pin through a switch to a ground. When you flip the switch the check engine light will flash so many times showing you error codes. Assuming you have the W pin hooked up to your check engine light.

Thank you for the help and info.

Not sure I completely understand ATIB96 /n ATIIA 13 /n ATSH8113F /n ATSP A4 /n ATSW00

What do you mean this string in the vehicle.

It's for the torque pro app for your phone. Then use a Bluetooth obd2 dongle. In the app you have to make a vehicle profile and there's a line to enter that code. It makes it so the app can read the jdm ecu. That's the only I've heard to make it work. Don't know how to do it with an actual plug in obd scanner.

Thank you for the insight.

Basically what I have right now is a full wiring harness that was made for the car and motor. it has an OBD2 reader wired in, but when I connect a scanner to it, even one at toyota dealerships, it never gets past the spinning "loading " Wheel, and usually times out or just keeps trying with no success. So i am assuming that the OBD2 is not wired in correctly.

if i wire this into the TC pin would this also allow it to read?

The reason that the scanner isn't working is because the ECU uses a Japanese protocol. Not the standard usa one. Even the Toyota dealerships scanner isn't gonna work for that. That's why we use the app on our phone and have to put that special code in. Doing the TC wire like I mentioned before will make the check engine light flash exactly like the old way of jumping the T1 and E pins in the old diagnostic box. So you would count the number of flashes to get the engine codes.

It was built by Wire Gap (Doug Copeland) but I haven't spoken with him since 2016

Everything else seems to work perfect.

Try talking to him also. I'm pretty sure he puts a way to get engine codes in his wiring harnesses.
