Anyone know what this connector is supposed to connect to?

Anyone know what this connector is supposed to connect to?

Postby Aaron » Sun Jun 21, 2020 3:26 am

It's wrapped around the starter harness, goes across under the steering wheel and looks to meet up with a harness that heads along the driver's door sill towards the back of the car. Was thinking it might be aftermarket, but not positive. Anyone?

It looks factory?

What do you mean by starter harness?

Sorry, I guess it's called an ignition harness -- I dunno, the one with the big white connector that is commonly tapped into for a turbo timer and whatnot. The harness in question is wrapped around that one.

Figured it out. Found this with the spare parts.

Is the rest of that security system intact on the vehicle? If so, there should be a control module under the front driver seat, and an integration harness behind the driver side kick panel. So often, these were removed not because they did not work, but because the owners didn't understand well how they worked.

Yeah, the control module is here, too, and the harness is still in the car. Was wondering what those plugs under the driver's seat were for. I should try reconnecting it and testing it out. Is there a manual online somewhere or can you describe how it operates? Based on your comment, it may not be straightforward.

Found the manual here, but looks like I'll still need a remote...

You found a manual, but it is not the correct one for your system. If you take a close look at the dash switch, yours is a bit different looking than the one in the manual you have a link to. And that manual is for a TDSE. The picture I have below is what you should have - a TVSS. I'm also showing the dash switch (same as yours) and the remote you should have (same as shown on the TVSS owner's guide). Yes, you should have a remote. I don't believe the functionality will be quite as user friendly without it - if it is even possible to use without the remote. The pictures I have is from a complete spare system - my son's two ST185's have this feature, so I found a spare system in the salvage yard just in case one of his systems acts up.

Some of the technical service bulletins in your link are very valuable, especially the one about programming remotes to the system (that isn't in the user manual). Thanks for including those - I'm making copies for our records - they may come in handy.
