Geez this ST165 is so frustrating. The intercooler and pump are hooked up and yet I'm still getting a 54 code. Misfires on test drive, goes limp, and dies. Takes forever to want to start again and then dies soon after. Now the battery is down to 2 volts. Pulled the ECU and looks fine. I hate electrical issues so much!

ok 54 code taken care of with MR2 ECU but that's just a band aid. Getting misfire and need to figure that out. Was able to drive around a bit which was nice but pushing the boost hard causes that issue to return. Putting in boost gauge so I can see a bit of what is going on. Need to pull the intercooler and check the plugs. Put together this to replace the radio.

ok my update for Feb 2025. Was trying to determine if the issue was the fuel pump resistor. Well on a drive it misfired and died. Refused to start and had to tow it back to the house. Embarrassing. Anyway with some time to think and diagnose the issue I saw on the Toyota EWD there is a starter relay (28300-16010) which might explain why I'm getting power to the starter but nothing when turning the key. That part is long ago NLA so thankfully there were a few Corollas at the junkyard and I picked up a few of those relays.

Got to that today and it started!

My other theory is that my ignition coil was just zip tied to the strut bar. While the EWD doesn't show it as needing a ground like the ignitor does every Toyota I've looked at the ignition coil is either mounted to the body or to a bracket that is mounted to the body. So I'm going to mount it somehow so it is grounded.

On to tidy up some intercooler pump hose leaks then see if the fuel pump resistor is still the issue when getting into the boost. If not that I'm going to have to pull the injectors and get them cleaned again.

Ordered a clutch for the 1991 because that car has to get in the garage soon.
