What were the OEM gaskets like - as in what material/construction?
Or perhaps more to the point, what is the best gasket option still available?
Currently my car has the eBay generic tubular manifold. I do have the original manifold in a box of parts from the previous owner. I need to look at it again. If I remember right it may have had a crack welded. I don't know if the weld failed, so the PO just went with the tubular one, or if it was still functioning. I suppose if it's bad, I'll try to find another.
I want to go back to the OEM one so I can fit the heat shield back on. I know it probably doesn't make a ton of difference, but something about those bare tubes just feels at odds with reducing underhood temps. Maybe I should just remove it so I can try to wrap it properly.
